The test they give to calibrate your test with your own aquarium water does not even give the proper results.

I have noticed that the colors of the samples will significantly change depending on the lighting. The attached photo shows the same two sets of samples (two tanks) under different light. One is inside a window with sunlight, the other under LED ceiling lights (I think 4000 Kelvin, but not sure). There is a difference of about .5 ppm.Which is correct.I decided to use only sunlight readings to be consistent, but also because it’s easier to judge the comparison scale under sunlight. If they told me what light to use, I would give it 4 to 4-1/2 stars.

Used API test kit befor and thought my tap water is full of phosphate. But after purchasing an osmosis system did not find any difference in test results. Used this test to verify phosphate level. It was easy and fast a d reliable. Because of wrong test used befor I purchased unnneccesary osmosis system. 5 stars for this product! If I had it earlier...

Inexpensive, quick test that's very easy to read. Helped me get my phosphates under control. Had some pretty bad algae blooms due to the way my tap water is treated. Picked up some Seachem PhosGuard along with this as well. No more ugly algae. Decorations and substrate look great once again.

For the easiness of strips they work okay.

this is a very quick, easy, and inexpensive kit for detecting low levels of phosphate in fresh and salt water. you add a tiny amount of sample water to the well using the included pipette, a drop of solution A, 2 drops of solution B, mix with the included stirrer for a second or two, and then match to the color card - done. the color gradient is roughly logarithmic, so while it can be hard to find the exact color match at times, you can pretty easily tell what range it falls in - the lower the range the more precise you can be.

I think this is a very good test kit. It's easy to read compated to some of the others out there. I always have trouble with the colors, and this being in a white dish makes it much easier to figure out. I will purchase more of their kits as needed.

I had high phosphates in my tank and needed a way to monitor them. High phosphates causes an algae problem that makes your tank dingy and ugly. I was bleaching something almost every week. With lower phosphates, my tank stays cleaner and prettier longer. I have tested my water with this kit and verified the results against the pet store pros and always have the same results. Now I can do it at home. Enough product to get many tests and will last a long time.
