Testing reveals that this strobe/beacon is indeed reverse current protected as advertised .. perhaps an internal bridge in series. In any event, I just ordered two more to be mounted atop on the har (hinge end) posts for remote vehicular gates. These can be wired directly into the motor terminals, and take the plus or minus 12 volts motor current, and process internally. Even in mid-day, if your peripheral vision gets a glint, your attention will be drawn to the event of the electric gate having movement. The newer (25 amp) control boards also provide power for the latch without a supplementary module .. wired into a standard 6" bell .. 2 seconds is tolerable. I highly recommend this combo, especially if you have children doing a "walkabout" .. as they will. Cheers!

Not very bright. This uses LED's instead of the typical xenon flash bulb. I won't buy again.
