EDIT 2/24/25: Just updating to say this wall planter has worked out really well. I've added a photo of several months later... You can see I had to remove some plants because I had just too many crammed in there and they all wanted to grow. The polka dot plants got overgrown and messy, so I pulled them. What remains, from upper-left and clockwise, is a nerve plant, a pilea silver sparkle, a red siam aglaonema, and a crispy wave fern.... All thriving in the wick setup. It's really hard to tell when the water is low without pulling out a pot to check (it would improve the design to have a small window on the side of the box to read the water level) so I just water a bit with a long-spout watering can every 3-5 days, top and bottom. Seems to work just fine!Original review:I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, but I can see it being a disaster if you pick the wrong plants or don't understand the wicking system. This is a self watering wick system which should ONLY be used for plants that are ok with always being moist, all day every day. So that's ferns, fittonia, some syngonium, ivy, aglaonema, (I hope, this is my first one), etc. You should amend the potting mix with EXTRA perlite (seriously, like 50% perlite) to make better aeration for the roots, otherwise this very wet environment could cause root rot. The directions state that you need to pull the wick far enough up into the pot to touch the roots, but this is not necessary: anything you plant in these pots is going to have no problem getting water. Just make sure the wick reaches down into the reservoir. The way this planter is designed, there are in fact TWO water reservoirs, top and bottom, but they only give you a water level meter for one. They want you to water in the top opening and keep watering enough that it overflows from that reservoir to the one below. Only then can you read the water meter telling you how high the water is. And at this point, you're really soaking the plants. At least on mine, the water from the top reservoir trickles down unevenly, mostly on the right, and that's top-watering the plant there in addition to the bottom watering. So I prefer to just water a little on top and on bottom, occasionally pulling out a pot to feel how deep the water is. The instructions state that it will hold up to a liter, but when I tested this water was pooling at the base of the bottom pots. That's too much water. It might be ok for some plants, but you definitely need to keep an eye on the water level or else you'll be occasionally partially drowning everything.I love wick watering systems so this was all pretty easy to figure out for me. Hope it helps someone! I love how this planter looks and I hope my plants can thrive there for awhile before they outgrow the little pots.

I think it's a $30 design but about $10 in construction. I do recommend this, but i got it on sale in July. I prefer not to have a stone or tile backsplash in my kitchen, so this looks great on the wall next to kitchen sink holding herbs. It's terrific for that. I think $20 is a more fair price for this. If it goes that low I'll probably get two more. There's four large hex holes in the back... If you splash or something, it could leak out the back but it isn't likely. I decided to use the top two hex holes to hang it with the two included large screws... I put one side in a stud and used the included anchor for the other side. Easy and it's doing great. And so easy to take down and put back up. The water gauge is great, but was hard to read with my lighting so i put a piece of white vinyl tape in the back so the red stick and blue lines are easier to see. The "sealant" is crap. I used good craft glue and it's holding great. I think I'm going to paint the frame the same color as my walls so the plants are more prominent then the frame. Before you hang it or put plants in, install the gauge and practice adding water... It holds almost 3 cups. Notice it's a bit heavy and best if you hang it flush with the wall and perfectly level. The white shoe laces are wicks and must be used properly so that the plants can sip water through them. I usually use cotton, but that disintegrates quickly in the dirt. These polyester shoelaces are terrific! Wish i had thought of that for my home made self watering planters.

Have this on my front porch. It looks awesome. It’s small and had to get small plants but once it’s all planted it looks gorgeous.

The water all flows to the bottom of the planter, so the plants at the top do not get any water, and-follow my logic here - therefore do not grow. Don't waste your money.

I like these. They're a little on the small size, but they're easy to use and make a nice feature in my office.

I waited to review to see how it worked with seeds planted. I thought initially that the upper and lower chambers would be independent of each other but they are not. The water indicator is in the bottom section so when you water the upper chamber the overflow fills the lower chamber. I was worried this might be a problem but it has worked well so far. I planted miniature lettuce in the upper pots and thyme in the bottom. As you can see they have sprouted well and I will soon be able to harvest some lettuce. I will have to wait a while for the thyme but since it is trailing it should work well hanging from the wall. The nice part is you could have an entire living wall by adding additional units. I did purchase a narrow necked watering can for it as I didn’t want to wet the wall repeatedly and that worked well. I just filled the pots with miracle gro potting soil and added the seeds. The mounting was very easy as I was mounting on wood but there was hardware included for other surfaces.

I got this to grow herbs in my kitchen and I love it. It's very easy to pot and place in each plant in it's designated spot. I love the self-watering ability, since I'm not super great at knowing exactly how much water each plant needs. It's also great having the water gauge to attach inside the reservoir to help me see how much water is in the container. For now, I'm planning to set it on my counter close to my kitchen window, but may decide to hang it on the wall at a later date. I love the option to be able to hang it, and if I succeed at keeping my plants alive with this self-watering planter, I might just get a few more to make a nice living wall art display. I recommend a self-watering container if you're unsure how much to water each plant. It saves your plants and your sanity.
