Bulky 4-caliper brakes are great for enduro and gravity-oriented disciplines, but when pure lightweight speed is what you're after, reach for Shimano's new SLX-BL-M7100 Disc Brakes for quick braking power without the extra weight. The new SLX 7100 brakes saw revisions that brought it into the future along with the new SLX 12-speed drivetrain, offering quicker piston retraction for improved modulation when you ride, while still offering the svelte aesthetics and reliable performance we're used to from Shimano'a work horse line of components. Shimano's new SLX brakes carry on with aesthetics that likely remind you of previous models when you take a look at the caliper, and you wouldn't be wrong. They still feature the same profile, and trusty two-caliper design, but in the front is where the magic happens. The new SLX brakes feature a redesigned brake lever that features a new bracing angle for added support that stabilizes the lever for an improved feel, while packing in tool-free reach adjust, and I-SPEC EV compatibility the enables you to fully integrate your shifting and brake levers for a tidy cockpit that leaves plenty of room for dropper remotes and remote-shock levers. In addition to the new mounting position, the new lever also features an updated shape that's both taller and flatter than the previous generation for improved feel while you ride. The brakes continue with the streamlined master cylinder design we saw in the previous SLX brakes, which saves weight on the caliper body. The slimmer clamps on the bars continue utilizing Servo Wave cam system, with improved power and responsiveness when you give them a squeeze as you head down a steep into a sharp, unexpected switchback. And with 2-pistons, the M7100 offer quick stopping without bulk, offering you everything you need for total confidence on flowy ribbons of cross-country singletrack, .

I bought the front and back SLX Bl- M7120,s plus front and back ice disks for a complete metallic system. This front break was never as strong as my rear smaller break. I thought this was strange but maby a drop of oil or something got into it. So it’s my quarterly bike maintenance and i took apart the pads to likely sand them and clean with alcohol. The back breaks came with metallic pads and these did not. Which sucks because the disc will never accept the metallic pads because of the heated resign melted into it. This sucks and never states with pads come with it and unless your take it fully apart you will never know because the tops look the same.

This is not preassembled and ready to go. It requires special tools and fluid. What I thought was going to be a 10 minute swap took me a few hours.

Great stopping power at a reasonable price. I've taken this brake downhill and it provides reliable and predicatable stopping power every run. You can drag this brake all day long.

Forget the cheap zoom brakes if you live in hilly areas save up and spend the extra dollars if you think your life is worth it. I built a fat tire 1800 watt electric bike and by the time that I finished installing everything the bike alone weighed 80 pounds. I fluctuate between 220 and 230lbs. The bike with me on it flat out can do 50mph. so that is well over 300 pounds overall. The cable disks were not cutting it so I bought some cheap zoom brakes which stopped waayy better than the cable ones that came on the bike. I live in hilly areas where you can have a 500 foot steep downhill on a regular basis. Well I squeezed so hard last month because I just wasn't stopping fast enough, so hard in fact that the front lever that houses the fluid burst and leaked down the forks to the front disc. Through the grace of God I was already far enough downhill that I could stop safely. NEVER go cheap on the brakes on a heavy bike or if you are a heavy person. Even a thin person needs to stop going 50-60 mph downhill or around curves. Just my 2 cents. I bought these Shimano brakes and they are 10 times better and more confidence inspiring that my cheap ZOOM hydraulic brakes. They break in quickly but do take some getting used to as they are ALOT more grabby, so practice, adjust the grab reach, and get used to them first or in the heat of braking you WILL flip or slid the back tire out.
