The build quality and sound quality are great for such a reasonably priced pair of speakers. I read that they sound better without the grill and I believe that's true.

I tried a few different sets at various prices. These are the ones! Great price and great sound quality. Quality made.

I picked up a pair because of reviews and price. First off, I'm not sure of low frequency on these speakers. I have them wired to a Harmon Kardon with a 15" powered sub. Using to listen to vinyls. The highs are pretty crisp, and I have the sub to pick up low frequencies. They sound pretty good. Far better than I expected. I hate the phrase, "good for the money". These sound pretty damn good regardless. And yes, for the money, I'm very happy. I would definitely suggest these

I initially used these as tv speakers for around a year before moving them to my desk to be used as pc speakers. They had no issue filling the room with quality sound when used at the tv but they had a tendency to "walk" across the surface they were on if the volume is turned up high (perhaps rubber feet instead of foam would fix this?). After moving them to my pc they never did the "walking" again but that's just down to using lower volume to fill a smaller area as opposed to a room. They have a balanced sound but its recommend to have a sub accompany them for the really deeper bass frequencies (its a small speaker its to be expected). Other than that I would buy again in the future for a desk or a smaller room.

These speakers are top notch for the price of under $100 a pair.Very pleased how they enhance the sound of my other pair of speakers.4 speakers better than 2!!!!!!And they come with good quality wires (thick) to attach from speaker to receiver/amplifier.

Great sounding speaker that puts out a better stereo image in comparison to my Polk T15s and the Moukey 3-Way bookshelves in a smaller package. Listening volume was measured around 70-80dbs. Anything above this was too much for these small speakers. Break up and sound clarity was expected at these sound levels. Highs hat sounds clearer than the simple white noise sound from the Polks. Mids bring out the vocal clarity and hand claps in mixes. Bass output is not massive but tight and clear when listening to great bass guitar runs like Good Times by Chic. Overall for the price you cannot beat this small bookshelf speaker for the price. When paired with the Pyle T20 tube amplifier and a subwoofer. The sound is more than adequate for most people.

I needed these after my old powered speakers died. I have a yamaha receiver and I plugged these into the main l/r and they sound great. I turned on an old Blader Runner mp4 and couldn't be happier.I really appreciate a well engineered and thought out product. The connectors can take either a banana plug or just speaker wire, which they provide. No problem identifying the l/r as the wire is color coded and stripped and tinned on the ends. The jacks unscrew to reveal a small hole to put the wire through, easier than trying to wrap it around, which you could also do. The terminals are even on a bit of an angle to make it easier.I got the wood finish, and they look fabulous. Nice setup for hanging them all the wall also and the front covers can come off, just like my $3000 JBLs on my other system. These can also serve as a nice pair of surround speakers. The price is so great I might buy another pair and use one for a center speaker.I did add a bit of eq from my receiver, to boost the high end, but no distortion. I don't play them very loud, as I've left my hippie days behind, but they did take a decent volume level. All in all, a great purchase.

I would rate these speakers 8/10, so 4 stars. They could look & sound better, tho still not too shabby. The brown wood version looks much better than the black. They are actually quite small got a 4 incher and and I'm using them aside my monitor, serving my my multimedia PC (games/movies/music) and running off a pretty good Asus Xonar Essence STX soundcard. Pairing them with with a cheap but pretty decent China class D amp, and the whole setup can get very loud. Need to temper the volume to keep it getting out of control hah. I do not intend to get a subwoofer and my amp doesn't allow for it anyway so these two speakers will have to handle everything.Someone mentioned without the grills it would sound better. I took of the grilles and lo & behold, yes, LEAVE them off!! 1 star off for the fact the grills hobble the sound so bad they shouldn't have even designed them! Instead of a minimalist wooden frame, they use thick plastic in a criss-cross pattern that block/muffle tons of speaker sound!Soundwise: Highs - good, good. Mids - a bit recessed and undefined. Just gets worse from here. Lows - I guess mid to semi-low bass is where these speakers end as they won't go further (their spec is only 55hz). Bass is a bit humpy but present & decent. Still ok, really. Probably the reason why subs exist hah.The bass capability reminds me of my previous pair, the Audioengine A5, which though sounded better, were much more expensive and were 50w speakers. You'll need to tweak the EQ for more pronounced bass; leaving everything alone, you might feel the bass really leaves something to be desired. My last speakers I used a lot was a cheap SG branded SonicGear Titan5 2.1 system ($25) and the bass produced on the sub was really low and could be felt, though for the price, the sound quality overall was barely passable for gaming. With the Chinese amp I got, the price made it up to exactly S$100, which I think is value for money. I'm considering a Chinese preamp now (as u can see I'm totally on a budget) which will take the price to a high $150, which is probably where I'll stop at for this audio system. Finally, will just close one eye if it doesn't hold up as long without the speaker grilles on as they were only S$77! My last pair, the Audioengine A5s were S$550 and they had no speaker grilles whatsoever and the rubber on the woofers turned white after 5 years, either way! Even if this does change colour, it's ok as the price was very affordable!Long-term usage addendum: I'm keeping this as a 4 star review as I think the sound is worth more the price I paid. This is my first pair of passive speakers, btw and my foray into the world (or endless pit, depending on perspective) of audio separates. I have bought a lot of other speakers/equipment since then. But I digress. You have to compare price to performance and a S$77 speaker to others in its ballpark. Also, I tested it several times in my living room's Pioneer receiver and the speaker really shoned and wowed the pants off me. So it really is capable of a lot, provided with with decent/good amplification. So to finally sum up: if you have space and room in your life for another budget, bright & treble forward/detailed speaker with ok bass and mids AND you don't mind going grill-less then get this! Peace.

Got these to replace the speakers that came with a Crosley "all in one" turntable stereo. What a tremendous difference! The speakers that came with the Crosley were non ported with a single 4" driver. These Singing Wood feature a ported 2-way design. I immediately noticed a brighter, more robust Soundstage with added clarity and depth. The Singing Wood speakers are rated at a 6 ohm load, so they are better able to use the power they are given. They also sport good quality 5-way speaker terminals that support bare wire or banana plugs (not enough space for spade connectors though). At the price I paid ($57 at time of purchase) I can't recommend these little speakers highly enough.

I bought these for a small, bookshelf system. They are fed by a cheap, Chinese made amplifier that plays MP3 files on a Micro SD card. With a 4 inch main speaker, I didn't expect much bass, but they actually sound quite pleasant. At high volume levels, the sound becomes harsh. I can't say if this is the speakers, or amp. Either way, using them to play background music , they work quite well. The look is acceptable, and fits in with the surrounding decor. In terms of value for money spent, I would say they are a bargain. By the way, what is "Sheerness"?
