This wire arrangement is asafety precation as a grounding wire on a gas water heater. If there is any electrical interference from lightning or anything else this wire will prevent the house from catching fire.

I needed to bond my water heaters inlet and outlet. It was installed with decoupling fittings and while that’s good it was creating electrolysis. Current wants to go somewhere and without a path it goes wherever it can find a ground.The screws could be spun in and out with my fingers, good machining there. The copper wire included was soft enough to bend with my fingers so it really was copper and not a plated steel.Worked as expected and was easy to work with.

Easy to assemble and install, and a code requirement on your hot and cold connections to your water heater thse days (espeically if you have dielectric unions or coupling at the heater).
