Have tried 2 more without success. Wanted to connect my minisas backplate to my sata motherboard. Both 2 said reverse or inverted but did not worked. This one has good quality and works. Maybe a little overpriced. But works...

I bought one of these "SFF-8087 to 4x SATA - Internal Mini SAS to SATA Reverse Cable" to replace an older cable I had in my Server because I was getting errors on one of the drives. I received the red cable that is pictured with the metal locking clips on the SATA connector, so I decided to get 3 more to replace the other old cables and make everything uniform in my Server. What a mistake that was, the new cables that I received were black, had no metal locking clip and also had electrical tape rapped around the connection where the cable connects to the SATA connector. Needless to say I installed the new cables and almost destroyed 2 pools in my Server. My advice to you is if you order these cables and you get the red ones you will be fine but if you get the black ones with the electrical tape send them back immediately do not chance it like I did with these black cables you might end up loosing some data.

Installed as expected, providing good transfer rates (close to the theoretical limit with paired with a Samsun SSD).

This cable works perfectly, however ensure you make the correct choice between a 'forward' cable versus a 'reverse' cable - although they look the same they are not interchangeable:A forward cable takes four SATA hard drives and combines the signals into one mini SAS connection to be plugged into a motherboard / mini SAS HBA / mini SAS RAID controller.A reverse cable takes one mini SAS connection from a storage backplane and divides it into four SATA connections to be plugged into a motherboard / SATA HBA / SATA RAID controller.

The product isn't high end but it's decent quality. Had no problems with the cable at all. I've been using it for a couple of months now without problem. Fit my needs perfectly.

I have purchased several items from Startech and have been pleased with each one. They have solid connections and the cables are a very nice quality. All have worked well with no issues.

I used this cable for a server with multiple drives that I use to store video footage. Its not a super high end system but more of a workhorse storage unit and this cable worked just fine for my needs.

I recently ordered my and, just like the hard drives it powers, the controller comes "bare." Put that pricey new puppy in your favorite MB and you'll find yourself with no way to hook up those SATA drives designed to build out your mini-SAN.Allow me to introduce you to SFF-8087, the connector standard used on this and on controllers like . It's - lamely put -- an extension cord that creates four daughter signal cables from one of the receptacles on the controller card.Works for JBOD, RAID-5 trios or whatever you need -- if controller supports it.This cable is a commodity item, but it's offered by a company that stands behind its products with real support and a lifetime warranty. Keep these Startech employees employed.About "bare" . . . Thank goodness I don't have to write a driver, which was the de facto suggestion made by LSI's acquisition target Promise after they stranded one of my controllers without a post-Vista Windows upgrade path. OK, that is a side rant. And speaking of obsolescence, make sure your intention is for internal. Serial attached SCSI standards are different for external. In addition, SFF-8087 is not the only available standard. Be ready for opaque terminology like "HBA."Not that you have many choices. If your goal is, say, RAID-5 in a DIY PCI context, you won't have many sources to choose from. Enjoy wearing that DIY hat while you can.

I have one of these cables connecting a SAS2 expander to a LSI 3108 controller on a Supermicro motherboard that uses SATA connectors. Works great out of the box. The other poster was probably using the wrong cable for his application.
