Silva quality all the way through. I've owned compasses from Silva for decades, and I absolutely trust them - they are absolutely excellent!

Overall good quality. South-seeking end of needle is a bit over-weighted for my location (Western US, Northern California.) If you hold it level or set it on a flat surface, the North-seeking end of the needle is lifted up. It is still functional, but mildly annoying in use, as you have to adjust how you hold it in order to be sure you get a good reading. However, even with that, the compass is good value for the money.

Very good quality for the price paid. Recommended for normal.usage but for mill use I doubt those folks will buy them There are better brands. One thing is this model do not have arrays of luminous on the bezel ring which can help for visibility.I do not know why they do not manufacture it with the luminous ring. It will help in some way and in some.cases especially in evening walk but not night. There is one with a small bubble inside. So no ideal if it effect the performance..the needle still point north when compared with the 6 of them which are all the same make model brand.only one had bubble. So there you are a quality product. Not too shabby. Unless you want the absolute best which is the Cammenga and you have to fork out 100 plus plus dollars. For normal trek ok. You are not gonna get lost or it will mistrack. For budget wise it is fine.

So many cheap compasses these days that lose the magnetization. This one is clear, easy to read, lightweight, and very map-reading friendly. I take this with me every time I go hiking in an unknown area. Would definitely recommend this to the casual hiker who doesn’t want to shell out $50+ on a compass.

There are more elaborate and expensive models out there, but they will not do any more than this one does.

Trust is important when your in the woods. Knowing the compass can point north every time. The more expensive compasses look nice, may be more rugged, faster to point north,

Great baseplate compass to learn navigating with a map. It's not adjustable from magnetic north to true north but you can use the declination shown on your map or go to NOAAs website to determine what declination to use. Many prefer that approach over an adjustable compass that you may forget to adjust as you travel to different locations.

This compass works perfectly for my needs, and even though there is no adjustable declination, they have markings to help you do the math and once you get used to it it works perfect. I’m not an orienteer so I don’t need anything too fancy but it is nice to have the option of knowing and correcting for declination even if it is not adjustable. It is liquid filled I believe and is very smooth turning and accurate. My main problem with this compass which is why I knocked off a star it that the face came scratched a little through one of the degree markings, it is not so bad that I cannot make it out but when you buy a new thing you kinda want it to be pristine (then after that all scratches and dings are from your own adventures) the problem is how the compass is packaged by Silva, there is no plastic covering the face of the compass, it is simply mounted in cardboard. Eco friendly for sure but leaves it susceptible to the inevitable scratching of the face when they are all rubbing against one another in storage. I cannot say if this scratch came from the seller or from Silva, but there really is no way for the seller to prevent this from happening. I just wish Silva paid more attention to their packaging choices.

Purchased this exact item as a gift because I received 1 of these 30 years ago, and although I do not use it daily, or monthly for that matter... Still works like day 1, never failed me. This exact same model I purchased seems to be the same exact quality as 30 years ago! A great, inexpensive starter compass for anyone, that should stand the test of time. My original is 30 years old and I trust it like brand new.

This is a small light compass that replaced a 30 year old basic Silva compass. Much easier to use because north is marked and matched in color. Use for basic hiking on trails. Always know direction on overcast days on unfamiliar trails. Great value. Meets my needs. My security compass.
