My son is getting very into playing any sort of musical instrument. A little tiny thing like this is a no-brainer for him. I bought this and just left it sit on the coffee table and as soon as he came home from school, he picked up the little included mallet and starting creating pleasant music from this instrument.The pictures didn't properly show how small this drum is to me. It is 3 inches, the same diameter as a hockey puck, so this is very small. That makes it suitable for a desk toy, or to allow a kid to play. He can play it very quietly with the mallet or with the eraser tip of a pencil, and it will be very quiet, but it will get loud enough if you play with a little bit more force.

This steel drum is a tiny gem. It fits in the palm of my hand and the sound is lovely. It's fun to play as a desk toy, but I intend to use mine at the bottom of my rain chain. If only it would rain here...
