This drum and variations of it can be found everywhere now. unfortunately even for the low price I cant say its worth it. Yes it makes sound when you hit it and could be fun for those musically inclined. Unfortunately, the notes do not sustain themselves for more than a second meaning there is very little mingling of the music. It just ends up sounding like individual keys being hit one at a time since they dissipate so fast.Other than that, it appears well built, and has an attractive powder-coated rough finish on it.

I'm a musician and have quite a collection of musical instruments. But, I've never had one of these.I was excited when it came. I do have to say, I haven't had as much quiet time to play with it as I would like. But I did have a few minutes to give it a good test.I can't tell yet for sure, but I believe it's in the key of C. I got it more for the soothing tones than for musical melodies. It's actually the healing frequencies of the tones that are very nice.I should have a lot more time to play with it over the upcoming weekend. If my opinion changes after more time playing it, I'll update my review. I like that it comes with a bag, but I wish everything would fit in the bag - it would be much easier to keep everything together.Overall, this little drum appears to be well made. The tones are great and this will be so soothing and relaxing for me.I'm happy with my new drum and I know I will enjoy it very much. I do recommend it.

Love that the rubber stopper comes out so it can live outside and rain can make music!

For quite a while I have been wanting a small, portable percussion instrument that I can learn to play for worship and recreation. I have always admired those who play steel drums, so when I saw this, I was intrigued. It is a cute little thing. It comes with a small round zippered nylon carrying case, two wooden mallets with rubber heads, a 46-page music book and the steel tongue drum. There is also a small black plastic thing, but I don’t know what it is for, and the instructions don’t tell me.Notes are played by striking the numbered tongues to make music. The drum has to be on a flat surface to sound right, and there’s a small rubber membrane at the bottom. If you read music, number 1 is middle C, while the 1 with the dot is high C.It would be nice if the tongues were arranged in numerical order. Since my drum is black, it’s a little hard to see the numerals engraved in the metal to know what to play. I am sure it will become familiar over time, but it’s kind of tricky starting out with the numbers going 1,7, 5, 3, 2, 4, 6 to 1 (with a dot over it) in clockwise order.I wish the carrying case was big enough to hold the mallets. Since it’s not, I will have to find a way to transport them separately. Otherwise, this is a really nice set. The regular price of almost $27 seems a bit high, but it is a quality precision instrument. It would be a great gift for someone who was musically inclined.
