If your changing our struts, this is a must have tool. Saves you time, effort and frustration. First time using and would have to say where there heck was this 10 or 15 years ago? Made the job so much easier and its a quality tool.

I bought this tool to assist with the replacement of front struts on my 2017 VW GTI. This is a must have tool to help spread the strut mounting area apart to ease installation of struts. It worked well. I lubricated the moving parts before use and simple hand tools were all that were needed to spread the strut mount. It stayed in place during both strut replacements. Good enough quality for the home mechanic that does only a few strut replacements.

This tool literally saved my life. I was installing lowering springs on my 2018 VW GTI and this was the first car I have owned that had the stupid tension style knuckle that holds the strut in place. I watched a few youtube videos on DIY lowering spring installs for the GTI, and nowhere did any of them mention needing a tool like this one. Needless to say I was very frustrated not being able to remove the strut from the knuckle. I tried using both the 1/4" socket method to spread the knuckle and the 2x4 method, and none of them worked. I did some research and decided to take a chance on this tool since it was the only one that could get delivered the next day. After I got it, I immediately went to work trying to separate the strut from the knuckle. It worked as advertised. 5-10 minutes later I had the strut out of the car. Definitely a testament to having the right tool for the job. It appears to be of decent quality, and there was no foul stench or "stank" as mentioned in another review. Overall it got the job done and was pretty inexpensive compared to other strut spreader tools on amazon and other sites.

I'll start by saying that I just received this tool and have not used it yet. First impression is pretty bad, crudely constructed with grinder marks and rust on the bolt threads. I'm well aware of what quality tools cost and I understand that this is not portrayed as a high end tool. But dang, it's rough. Took some effort to get the forcing screw turning because it was pretty rusty, probably sat in inventory a long time- who knows. Once I got it moving it's fine. The over all feel is reasonably robust but I guess I'll find out next time I need to spread a knuckle. I bought this tool for knuckles that need a further spread than the typical wedge type tool can produce, it'll see significant force and if it holds together I'll be happy. One other note, this thing smells bad. Who cares how a tool smells? My wife, opened the package and some stank found its way 6 feet over to my wife who didn't approve . chinesium metal with chinesium stank. Weird. If it breaks the first time I use it I don't be surprised and I'll report back, if there's no update that means I haven't used it yet or I hadn't broken. Good luck.
