I've built touring, gravel, and commuter wheels with these rims. I just bought one to keep around because I know the next wheel I build will likely use it. Never had a rim failure and brake surfaces wear well. All have arrived dead-flat and round, making building easy.

I built these 700c rims up for my hybrid Greenway bike. I built them up as three cross on 36 hole rims with 14 strait gauge stainless spokes on Shimano 5700 hubs with Continental Grand Prix 4000 II 120 psi 25mm tires . I did my usual 35 mile morning ride and checked the rims. The were noticeably out of true which I guess was to be expected out of a newly built set of wheels. I re-trued them, checked the spoke tension and the dish and remounted them to the bike. As I rode the Greenway the next morning, my ears were met with a cacophony of pings, twings and pops coming from the wheels. I stopped and checked to see if they were hitting on anything however they were still true. Spoke tension was to spec according to the Sun website and my Park spoke tension gauge. I determined that built up to spec with high quality hubs, spokes and tires, these rims need a higher than recommended spoke tension which did stop the "symphony" as I ride. They have been fine since however, it's my suggestion that you will have to run the spoke tension somewhat higher than normal if you wish to ride in silence.

The rim is reliable and inexpensive. Niagara Cycles is a weak link, however. It takes them 2 weeks to even put the rim in a box. If you order everything at once, you'll be sitting on your Prime hub and Wheelbuilder spokes for 9 days before you can start building a wheel.

I was rebuilding a vintage Miyata CT7000 carbon fiber frame as an e-bike and looking for some light weight rims. These came in at 530 grams (equipped with eyelets). I built them up with and . I actually built two front rims ... one with a Bfang SWXU electric hub and the other with a standard hub. It only takes a few minutes to swap out the front wheel and remove battery if I want a 'Pedal' bike. The rear wheel was built with a .I did have one nipple eyelet that popped out. I email Sun to request information on replacing the eyelet and they sent me a new wheel instead. EXCELLENT customer service.

Excellent value, fit, and finish. Provided an economical way to replace a badly bent rim, but lacing the spokes and truing the wheel is a real challenge for a first timer. Make sure to get new rim tape and a spoke wrench, and at least a 6 pack to get you through.

So far, so good. Built up nice and strong and true. So far, it's holding together well.

I've built up a bunch of CR-18 rims into wheels of various sizes. They are very tough and long-lasting and usually present few issues. They are not the lightest rims in the world but thicker walls and the eyelets in the spoke holes really give this rim a long life and head off issues with higher spoke tensions and spoke hole fatigue-cracking.The joint on the rim is pretty smooth and doesn't seem to have any issues where they are pinned with excessive brake-pad rubbing at the lip on either side of the joint. It doesn't get loose or make noise like some other pinned rims sometimes do. They put a sticker over the part where it is ground down to even out the joint, and also do a good job of finishing it off at the lip of the rim without causing too much of false run-out wow like some manufacturers do if they grind/polish it out too much. The only real issue I've ever had with a CR-18 rim is one time on one rim some of the eyelets were pressed-in a little wonky. Some of the eyelets were actually pointing slightly the wrong way so that the staggered holes were actually pointing to the opposite-side hub flange compared to the side they should have been pointing at. This was BAD because it was creating a situation where the spoke nipples were at such an angle that the spokes were coming out of them at WAY too much of a bend. This eventually led to spoke fatigue and breakage right at those nipples in under 2000 miles of riding. That is unacceptable (and embarrassing for a wheel-builder.)This only happened on one rim and the not all the eyelets were crooked and pointing cross-hub. The ones that were the most crooked were the ones that popped the spokes first. It was a one-time issue with only one rim. The cost of these rims is so low and I think that this isolated issue was a rare QA glitch -but I am taking 1 star off of what I would otherwise give this rim. Other than that isolated issue this would have been a 5-star review because the high value of this budget rim and how tough it is.The only other issue with this rim is that it isn't the lightest -but you get tough instead and also really good value pricing. I have these rims on many of my bikes -these or the slightly-wider Rhyno-lite rims on my 26"/559mm-wheeled commuter. I tend to build wheels using the CR-18 on most of the wheels I build up for a customer unless they spec out something else like Deep-V's or another brand they prefer.
