I have 3 dogs that like to go running. I used to take them on a 5 mile jog every other day or so, but not only do I simply not have the time to keep up on that regularly--it also doesn't REALLY tire them out! They can run faster and longer than I can, no matter what! So I'd get them home and look out the window a half an hour later and find them digging giant holes in the back yard! How can they have the energy to be conducting massive excavations when I just took them on a 5 mile jog???I tried putting them on the treadmill but they seem terrified of it and no matter how I try to rig them up they squirm left or right until they can stand on the sides. No bueno. So when I saw this I was ecstatic! I've seen other people "walking" their dogs by bicycle, but they usually hold the leash in their hand, and that just doesn't seem safe. Either the dog could jerk the leash and make me flip headfirst into traffic, or the leash could get tangled up, or the dog could accidentally somehow bump into me or the gears or chain or tires... So forget about trying it with two or three dogs! This seemed like the perfect solution!I chose this product over the similar ones because it was less expensive and I envisioned my dogs following me, which I would prefer. Most of the other similar products have the dog riding to the side of the biker and I didn't like that idea. Some of our sidewalks are so narrow I can barely get the bike through, and even though I bike in traffic all the time by myself, I know it stresses out the dogs, so riding with them means riding on the sidewalk or on a nice bike path somewhere. The dogbikeleash arrived today. There were no instructions or product literature at all! There was a single line-drawing demonstrating how it should look installed on the bike, but if you have some sort of different bike or some accessory in the way, too bad! This product does not "clamp around" the bike's frame, it slips into the nut assembly that holds your back wheel on, and then some Velcro secures the end into place. It doesn't LOOK all that sturdy, but it was rock solid once it was put together. The device came with a little leash. I guess by the fact that it was held together with Velcro that it was intended to be some sort of safety break away, but I don't think it would have a chance of releasing in an emergency. Fido just better decide to go on the same side of the sign post as you went! I didn't use it, anyway. I wanted to take the two 50 pound dogs so I used a special two dog leash. Within a block I found that I had given the dogs WAY TOO MUCH leash. One was as far left as she could get and the other dog was pulling right as far as she could go. We were wider than a car! So I stopped and shortened their slack quite a bit. It helped, but each dog was still pulling her own way. Either they were eager to do their own thing or maybe they were afraid of the bike? One time we passed another dog that was being walked and both of my dogs lunged (friendly lunge, but still...) even though they definitely pulled me off course a bit it didn't make me fall off or even come very close to falling off. It was weird; it felt like fishtailing in a car! Anyway, I don't think they can enjoy the trip as much with them pulling opposite directions the whole time so next time we go out (tomorrow!) I'm going to yoke them together like a team and see how that works. We went our normal 5 mile route that we used to jog frequently. They started out bursting with energy and we went a mile and a half at about 9 miles per hour. Then they started dragging! The next 2 miles were 6 miles per hour, and the remainder was barely 4.5 which means... IT WORKED! They got all tired out. This very moment they are both completely passed out at my feet! I don't know if they'll stop digging holes but this is definitely a good workout for them, and I didn't even break a sweat.Took the 3rd dog ( a chihuahua/italian greyhound) and she also loves running, so I knew she would love this, but I found I had to be careful not to go too fast. She's a good little runner, but if she got tired and needed to slow down a cyclist might not even notice her weight dragging, whereas with the big dogs, when they started dragging it had a definite effect on the bike's speed. So I just took her around the block so she could feel like she got to do something, too.If you're thinking of getting this product, I say GO FOR IT!

We bought 2 of these, one for each dog. They didn't come with installation instructions, by my mechanically minded husband had them on our bikes in no time. They fit nicely on the back wheel assemblies of our cruiser bikes. We took the dogs for a test spin around the block - I had the hyper-spastic 1 year old 15 lb. terrier mix and my hubby took the calmer, 50+ lb. coonhound mix. I could feel the little guy zig-zagging all over the place at first, tugging against the leash that came with the bar (our little dog can't walk a straight line on a regular leash, so this was no surprise.) The older, calmer dog was a little shy of being so close to the bike, but she got used to it pretty quickly. She's a little overweight, so I was concerned about how she would do going at a faster speed. Turns out, she loves it! And so does the little guy. Once he gave in and stopped zig-zagging, he started running along side me, tongue lolling about, absolutely loving it. As we were riding, we came across a jogger and the little dog lunged at him, pulling the rear of the bike over with him. When we got home, we found that his harness had dug into his chest a bit. I'd read another review where the woman replaced the leash with a bungee cord, so we tried that out as well, to give the dogs a little bit more play in the leash. That worked out so much better with no injuries to the dogs!I hope the manufacturer reads these reviews and changes the leash design to a stretchier material to prevent injuries to the dogs. We also got both of the dogs better harnesses with a mesh chest piece and padded "armpit" straps, purchased, unfortunately, at the local big box store that starts with a "W".We love these bike leashes and would recommend this model above all others to anyone. It keeps the dog to the rear of the bike, prevents him from getting caught up in the wheels or pedals, and gives him the exercise he desperately needs. We took them camping and rode all over the campground with the dogs, much to most of the other campers' amazement. Some thought we were being cruel by making the dogs run, others thought it was a good idea, but their big dogs would drag them down the road. Not so. Once the dog gets into a rhythm with the bike, he runs along happily, and as one other reviewer stated, a tired dog is a happy dog. Our dogs do a noisy dance when we get out the harnesses and go nuts when we get out the bikes. If these things ever break, we're getting another set just like them!
