This is a basic inline crochet hook - what most have been using for years. The aluminum allows the yarn to glide smoothly, and the mm sizing imprinted on the hook is very helpful because the letter sizing is not consistent between manufacturers. The "inline" is better in my opinion than the tapered heads, because they make it easier to pull the yarn through the loops on your hook without the yarn snagging or splitting. If you are older or have hand issues like arthritis, these can be uncomfortable to use for any length of time because they are thin, and can make your hand cramp some. The metal can also be uncomfortable because it is cold - but wearing a pair of arthritis gloves helps both of those complaints. It is a good basic inline hook and is quality made so will last for years. The sizing imprint is stamped into the metal and won't wear off, and the Susan Bates hooks are color-coded - so you can tell at a glance if you are grabbing the same size hook or not if you drop it or misplace it.

I try to write reviews for everything I buy, but I don't know what to tell you. I'm a beginner, so I'm unsure what to write about in regards to the hook. It's a 9mm crochet hook. Exactly as described. Just what I needed for a scarf, and it arrived promptly! I usually crochet with smaller hooks (3.5mm-6mm) which are Boye. This is my first time using a hook this big and using this brand of hooks. Frankly, the Susan Bates hook took some time to get used to, but I don't know if that's because I've never used the brand or that sized hook. Once I became accustomed to the hook, it got the job done, comfortably and quickly. I'm still getting my footing in the crochet world so I'll for sure try various brands and compare.
