#1 If you haven't used synthetic ropes, they're much, much safer than wire rope. Wire rope can snap and with its stored energy can snap and do great bodily harm. Synthetic rope on the other hand does not store energy and if it breaks will just drop, won't whip around and cut ya. I personally don't use wire rope anymore at all. I've switched to synthetic ropes. #2 Do not rely on vendors' claims concerning "breaking strength" when selecting a synthetic rope. "Breaking strength" is about 5 times the safe "working load limit (WLL). You can get a good estimate of the safe WLL by dividing the "breaking strength" by 5. So if this rope has a breaking strength of 24,500 pounds (the info page claims 24,500 in one place and 26,500 in others so lets be safe and go with the 24,500) then dividing 24,500 by 5 gives us a safe WLL of 4,900 pounds which would be safe for pulling cars, small SUVs and small trucks out of light mud on an even surface. Change that to a car stuck in heavy mud halfway up the wheels and down in a ditch and it probably isn't safe. All the resistance factors come in to play. Now, this 3/8" rope is good for most scenarios involving ATV/UTV use. The thimbles are some of the best I've seen and the braiding of the rope ends is also some of the best I've seen. The color is atrocious but it is highly visible so I guess it's okay. All-in-all this is a great rope to keep available if needed. I'll keep mine in a storage box in my UTV's bed. Helping get my UTV unstuck just once would easily cover the cost. Highly recommended just beware of the strength claims.

I ordered this winch rope to use with a portable winch. The rope is 3/8” diameter and 50 feet long. It comes with two aluminum thimbles to protect the loops from damage. The price point of this winch rope is commensurate with most other winch ropes of this size, length, and strength. I prefer the bright coloring because it is easy to see in dark conditions, and I can quickly tell if the rope has been damaged or soiled in some way. What I like:Unlike wire rope, this polyethylene rope material is easy to handle and is lightweight.I like that it floats on water. It has a breaking strength of 26, 650lbs.It comes with two metal thimbles to protect the end loops of the rope. What I don’t like:As with all other synthetic ropes, special care must be taken to protect the rope from damage caused by abrasions, cuts, and chemicals. Conclusion:Overall, I am satisfied with this winch rope and have not experienced any problems. So far, it has performed as advertised.
