syos shape your own sound

Discover Syos Story

When Pauline Eveno and Maxime Caron, two doctors in acoustics trained at IRCAM in Paris, joined forces to create Syos, they wanted to offer mouthpieces with customizable sound characteristics and look.

Little did they know that the project would so quickly reach a prestigious international audience. Whether they play saxophone for Pink Floyd, Gregory Porter or Lady Gaga, nearly 200 distinguished ambassadors now swear by these four letters, SYOS, for Shape Your Own Sound: a customized experience made possible by the technological leap of the last few years in 3D printing and a thorough understanding of psychoacoustic phenomena, the study of auditory perception in human beings.

After many months of R&D, Syos has developed an exclusive material in collaboration with leading French research laboratories. Designed exclusively for 3D printing, the propriety SCAL3D material allows the creation of durable, comfortable mouthpieces suitable for contact with the mouth, optimized down to the micrometer. The introduction of SCAL3D makes the Syos mouthpiece a product 100% made in France the whole world is eager to buy! Sold in 50 countries, Syos mouthpieces delight musicians and their audiences with their unparalleled projection and sound definition, maximizing both playing and listening pleasure.

This revolution is taking place in the heart of Paris, where Syos has just inaugurated a new production plant in 2021.

After playing it a bit I found the size 6 fit my needs for concert band. I have Selmer and VD pieces for serious music but this one is more free blowing and allows me to project more to cut above the brass section when I need to. I use a VD V16 #2.5. Maybe the 5 would have a more "Desmond" sound? It is practical too because sun/heat damage is not an issue like HR pieces. The slightly rough texture seems to stain more easily however. I took 1 star off because it seems expensive for the effort used to make it. Hand finishing does not seem evident and I imagine it can be made by machine easily and repeatedly. Finally, I can't fathom how someone could crack it in half unless they walk into a wall or misuse it in some way.

This is the first time I've upgraded the mouthpiece for my sax. I've been playing for a few years in a volunteer symphony, and thought it was time to upgrade. I paired this with a carbon fiber reed and I was so happy. It sounded great (playing jazz at least), and it was an easy transition to the new mouthpiece. So far so good!

The mouthpiece made a noticeable difference in my tone-I had to reduce my reed from a 3 to a 2 reed but it was worth it.Happy Sax !!!!!

We purchased this on September 18th, 2024. 2 months in and it looks like this. Hopefully we do not have a problem with the warranty. I can't imagine having to replace every 2 months. My son is in band so he ususes it a bunch, but I don't think that is an excuse. If we get another one, it lasts longer, and it was just a defective, I will change my review.

Players seem somewhat mixed on SYOS mouthpieces, and I for sure have enough emails in my inbox…but I have to say not only has the Smoky become my go-to player, but one review that said they’d prefer it was hard rubber to printed plastic caught my interest. I would agree completely, we’re it not that I believe part of its exact acoustic quality is the resonance of the material. I think hard rubber may likely last longer in a year or three, but I love the way it sounds. Even the plastic ligature adds something beautiful and refreshing to the sound quality of this mouthpiece. I really like the way it plays!
