Although more emphasis is placed on the visuals, the importance of sound should never be overlooked. I have never heard of this brand until i saw a few youtube videos mentioning how good it was and it stands up to more expensive shotgun mic. Apart from needing a small AA battery to power the mic, you are off to the races. keep in mind its meant to be mounted on top of the camera it has a hot shoe stand, however with a simple 3.5mm extension cable like 12ft, you can create more distance for the mic.

This mic is surprisingly good. Very, very nice sound. I was moved to purchase this mic when YouTube audio guy Curtis Judd said that he like this mic over another mic that costs around $250. I immediately purchased this Takstar 600 and was eager to see how I liked it on my voice. And sure enough, I was really happy. The previous version was good, but it seems like this is better.

My wife and I create content for our Why We Buy iT YouTube Channel. Before purchasing this Mic we would use portable Lav Mics for our audio. Of course this involves hiding the recorder somewhere on your body and running the Lav Mic up through your clothes so it's close enough to your mouth for decent sound. Then you had to hope it didn't rub against anything and ruin your audio. It's great for when you're on the go but when filming at home it was a pain. After seeing a number of glowing reviews about the Takstar 600 I figured I'd give it a try. I have it permanently attached to a Tripod recording into a Zoom F2 mini recorder. The resulting audio recorded from about 3 feet away is excellent. This makes setting up to shoot a video so much easier and doesn't place any restrictions on wardrobe. For the money you can't go wrong.

I bought this as an upgrade to its predecessor due to the previous mic which still worked beautifully for more than 5 years having broken rubber bands on the mount. It would have been a simple fix to buy some tiny bands and keep rolling but I figured why not upgrade, they're ultra cheap. It's absolute garbage, I did not test before the first project and the audio is terrible. I ran some tests this evening trying to determine the issue and after getting very bad results which I'll get into that in a second, I decided to swap in the ole trusty SGC-598 which is now $16 bucks by the way, and all the issues were gone. It's still not a Rode, but we know that it's 80% of Rode for 10% of the price. On to the issues, the 200hz cut is unusable, it ruins vocal audio except for at 90-degree angles which is strange, I'm no audio engineer so I have no idea why but directly in front the audio is very bad but gets better the closer you get to a 90. With the cut off it is better, and the 90-degree thing seems to be less pronounced, but the main issue is the tiny nuances in the room, it seems to amplify them, rustling curtains are loud, a door closing sounds like a car crash, ac coming on that is nearly inaudible to the ear is a droning sound in the audio. I shoot video of cars in garages, the metal roofs clinking, and garage doors clunking the old mic picked these sounds up of course but it almost seemed as though it would add tad bit of bass to the sounds so they are not quite as intense. Anyways, don't buy this thing, buy its grandpa for half the price. I just ordered another of the old ones and a shotgun mic kit to try to get this one back to being mountable. If I can't return this one it's in the trash can, it's literally not even worth keeping on hand as a backup, better to not even have it. I'm not one to write scathing reviews, in fact, I think this is the first, I have no idea how the same brand that made something that was quite good could produce something so bad...

The tonal qualities of this microphone are very good. It does what it's supposed to do for a very reasonable price. The on/off switch is needed so you don't waste your battery, but it's a little bit of a pain if you don't check your levels, and end up with a video only ( no audio ) because you forgot to turn on your mic switch. But if you're careful, you will learn to love this microphone for what it will do for you.
