A good tool at an affordable price. When working thick leather and welts however, you will need to resort to additional tooling to make your thread holes. But when it comes to determining where precisely such holes are to be made, this tool is excellent.

Although I am not one to usually write a review, I definitely had to review this tool. First of all if you are expecting a genuine Tandy tool, just forget about it. This is definitely a counterfeit tool! That is the only con to this purchase. As far as I am concerned this tool is superior to the Tandy tool. It not only matches Tandy’s pricking irons, and generic pricking irons, far closer than the Tandy wheels do. So in conclusion you get a far better tool for half the price. Now if the seller would only be honest and admit that it is not actually a Tandy Craftool, But rather a better tool than what Tandy has to offer it would’ve gotten five stars instead of four.

I experimented with the different mark spacings on sheet PE plastic. The wheel quality is excellent, and the tool is sturdy, though a little small in the hand. As some others have pointed out, using hard pressure is necessary. At first I made a light pass, then tried to heavy it by going back. Don't do that! The main flaw I see is the too small size of the "sex screw", which I fear would quickly get lost. The tiny screw driver size would be a laugh, but with the deeply knurled grip, it works just fine. This is a quality product if you need to mark a cutout without using a magic marker or ball pen. I've hated having to clean the latter off of parts I cut out. The little dots are surprisingly easy to see, and easier to follow with tin snips than solid lines. This one is a keeper!

While I'm not happy about being charged as much for this thing as it costs (more than twenty five dollars when I bought it), the investment turned out to be well worth it.I was embarking on a leather-making project creating a dowel-topped, double-gusseted two flapped, four buckle, four compartment leather briefcase. Specific? Yes. I've been in business for myself for a couple of decades and nothing I've seen or used in the past has ever been wholly satisfying. So I designed what I wanted and it involved a LOT of stitching. About 1500 of them. All by hand.In order to make it look more professional, I thought it would be wise to have properly spaced stitches and that's where this little gem came in. It allowed me to position my stitching perfectly as well as space it exactly the way I wanted it to look.Any "unevenness" in the photo is due to my using a hole punch to go through the leather. This tool marks the leather with indentations. If that's all you use (an awl would help get a needle through) then the stitching would be more even than in the photo. I needed double-stitching (rather than a lock-stitch) for maximum durability. It works on any grade of leather and works best if you use your thumb to guide it, or lay down a steel or aluminum straight-edged ruler to guide it. But it's quick, efficient and does exactly what it says it does. It's well made so you'll never have to buy another one (which is probably why it's so expensive for its size and features). For hand-sewn leather projects, this is an awesome tool to make it look good.

Works fine, the handle is just a bit smaller than I expected, looks like a tool for children. Also the spikes could be about 1 muscle longer as it sometimes doesn't leave a mark unless you push very hard. My 10 year old boy could barely see the marks on his project.

Excellent, it does what it is supposed to do. It is made well. All Tandy products are good to excellent in my opinion. If you want a professional look in your stitching you need this tool. I make knife sheaths for myself and hunting partners and I expect a professional looking sheath. I would recommend this Tandy tool. JJF
