The battery compartment on this was a bit awkward and it comes with starter slides, but more specimens would have been appreciated. The microscope is not overly crazy and great but for the young scientist interested in looking at microscopic things, I think your money would be well worth starting here. If they like this, great, keep on and maybe get a more heavy duty model but if not, this will whet that curiosity and let you see how dedicated they are to microscopy.

Considered buying it for my grankids but the vendor doesn't list the type battery or even if it's replaceable.

This is more of a toy than an actual microscope but that should be assumed for the price. It comes with 3 pre-loaded slides and some extra plates to make your own. The microscope function works fine but we were not successful in getting it to work with our phones.

It works as expected for the price - the build quality is not bad, it's plastic so breakable. The slides it comes with are also plastic (not glass), so child friendly. It magnifies fairly well, however it's cheap optics so you get what you pay for. You have to be looking into the lens just the right way to get an good image.I'd recommend for kids 5-10

This microscope set is a neat way to engage kids with an iPhone and make it a little more relevant/exciting for them. The microscope itself is a decent one and has some neat accessories. My kids enjoyed taking photos on the iPhone and the holder/adapter for it worked pretty well.

Got this as a christmas gift for my son. We really weren't expecting much, considering it was only $25. But let me tell you this thing is great. It actually works very well. He has looked at multiple things and it shows it so clear. We haven't used the phone option yet, but I'm sure it will be great.

This is a great starter microscope if you have a child interested in STEM study. It has a good image quality and decent diopter/eye view. It's constructed decently and has lasted about three months with a child using it. The additional parts provided are useful although they can get scattered and lost pretty easily. Recommended.
