The rack itself is quality material and easy enough to install. A word of caution because it did not even dawn on me that a step through bike (girls bike) would need some kind of adapter in order for the bike to be mounted on the rack. Research the frame adapters to see if one works on your bike before ordering and being heart broken like me.

Once the initial setup is done it's a piece of cake.

This rack was great and very sturdy just didn't work for my fat tire bike

Very high quality product, as usual from Thule, but it doesn't work on the Volvo XC60. The side straps are required to keep it from rocking, and the Volvo tailgate does not have an edge that will hold the strap hooks. All the metal edges are at angles, or place the strap hook against expensive plastic tail light lens or the glass window. I also had big concern with the top straps as they will probably rub on the spoiler and ruin the paint. I'm going to have to install a hitch if I want a rack for my wife's bike on the Volvo.

I used this to take my bike to our vacation house in Florida. I was worried as it looked a little flimsy, but it worked great. 600 miles and no issue.

Once I figured out a few key things, this rack turned out to be very effective with three or less bikes. We travelled about 800km in total at expressway and passing speeds, large bumps, and corners and nothing moved, everything stayed in place. But there were some caveats.First, the design is generally good, it's quite sturdy, and the instructions are relatively clear. Take note that the two side straps are the most important in keeping the top part against the rear window. The top straps over the spoiler steady and help centre the rack and don't appear to have damaged the spoiler like I feared, even when quite tight. However, they will not go tight enough to push the rack against the window to steady it; the side straps easily did this. I did add two straps wrapped around the end of the bike holders and my RAV4's roof racks for extra security but am still unsure if they were necessary (green in the image). They did snug the rack up against the rear window, so I would likely use them again. The bikes are affixed quite nicely, but the straps and ties included are not the easiest to use, especially when removing them, plus they could get lost -- this could be easily improved by developing integrated ties, like other racks employ -- until then, don't lose them! One more recommendation, I used lot's of foam and bubble wrap between the bike and the rack, just to reduce any chance of paint wear, etc.Overall, I'd recommend this bike rack.

(Thule censored the below review and refused to allow its publication on their website)Last Thule product I ever purchase I never even got the bikes on. Unfortunately, I bought it from their Amazon store where they do not mention the "Fit my car" feature, and of course I only find out it does not fit after the return window has closed. Then, the instructions are utter garbage. It's just pictures, no text, that they claim is for "ease of understanding". 1. You have technically unlimited room to add translations for ever language, you are just trying to save on paper. 2. Adding text in one language is better than none. 3. You can at least have the text online, which you don't. 4. You are not IKEA, I am not building a side table. 100s, if not 1000s of dollars of equipment are being placed on this rack. If this falls off on a highway, it could kill someone. The pictures are simply not enough. *Listen to your customers* Not a fan of the buckle that cinches the belt which connects side-bottom. The metal hooks also have no padding, so expect some scratches on your car. Lastly, we have a difficult time with getting 2 bikes on there: the handlebars of one bike conflicted with the wheel of the other. Can't imagine trying to fit 3 on there. Two other friends asked about the bike rack after I purchased it, I will be telling them to stay clear of Thule.--- REPLY FROM THULE WHEN REVIEW WAS SUBMITTED TO THEIR WEBSITE ---Our staff has read your review and values your contribution even though it did not meet all our website guidelines. Thule makes great carriers. We have both a kayak carrier and this bike carrier. The bike carrier is very sturdy, easy to use and doesn’t move or bounce around during transport. You can put your bikes on with no anxiety about them falling off! The attachment straps take a little trial and error to work correctly but you’ll figure it out! Spend the extra money and invest in a well made Thule product. You won’t regret it!By the way, do your research on the Thule website before you order. Thule will show you what model carriers will fit on your vehicle. If it doesn’t fit it’s not the manufactures fault!

Ok so i have a 2020 highlander and I dont know why I didn't think of making sure it had a hitch when I bought it, but i purchased it without a hitch. Bad choice on my end..... I literally purchased and returned 6 trunk bike racks cause non fit right. Either they were so hard to secure the bike, or the weight of my bike (about 30+ lbs) made my top spoiler ( I guess that's what's it's called) move that I was terrified it was going to fall off..... I tried this Thule one only because of the picture of an suv on the front with a top spoiler. I had nothing to lose and im happy I gave it a try. It fits securely but my only issue is they need to provid extra straps to secure. They only provided 5 and my rack is a 2 bike rack that is not enough of straps. ive emailed the company and they said the straps are out of stock but I found them on Amazon and you would think they would offer to provide more but they didnt... I do love that there are 2 slots that the strap goes through and around a piece of your bike. Maybe they think since there's 2 slots for the straps times 2 bikes still leaves me with 1 extra??? But its not that simple. If you only use the 2 straps per bike, the bottom of your bike will rock back and forth which is why more straps are needed. I've used it 4 times so far and my heavy bike was secure for several hours...also I combined 2 of the straps together to make it long enough to secure one week and a paddle thus why it would be great to have a few extra straps.. . You can't have a 2 bike rack with only 5 straps.

What a complicated piece of crap! Instructions are visual only designed by an engineer for, maybe, an engineer to follow! Nothing is labeled so it’s difficult to figure out which strap goes where! Tie down straps for the bikes are extremely difficult to use because the part that the strap fits into is also rubber making it very difficult to release! And then, there is no way to lock this rack to your car so while you are out riding anyone can remove it from your vehicle easier then it took to mount it!
