Alumipaint AF is an antifouling paint specifically formulated for aluminum and pontoon boats. Aluminum or pontoon boats used in salt or brackish water require protection from fouling organisms like algae, barnacles, mussels, slime, and weeds just like steel, fiberglass or wooden boats. However, traditional bottom paints containing cuprous oxide (copper) are problematic due to the electrolysis that occurs when copper contacts aluminum. Manufacturers, boatyards, and DIY boat owners alike have struggled to find an effective replacement for now-banned TBT (tin) based paints. Alumipaint's potent blend of organic biocide and zinc is an environmentally friendly formula 100% compatible with all aluminum surfaces. It's also perfect for use on outdrives and running gear to minimize galvanic corrosion risks. Compare to Pettit Pontoon Pro or Interlux Pacfica Plus. You get superior coverage and durability with 1 to 2 coats. Simply paint over a previously painted surface that is in good condition or over a properly primed bare aluminum surface. Proper preparation and priming of bare aluminum is critical for paint performance and to prevent corrosion. Unprotected aluminum corrodes rapidly in salt or brackish waters. Ready to paint bare aluminum, such as a new pontoon or one that's had the finish sanded off? You need the right primer and process or no paint will stick. We recommend TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat Primer followed by Alumipaint AF for a complete, easy-to-follow system. This season, rely on this copper-free solution to maintain your aluminum boat's integrity and cruising speed, while preventing the leaching of harmful chemicals into the waters. All TotalBoat products are a great value, developed by boaters, for boaters. 100% made in the USA.

Just applied this to my SeaRay Sundancer 310. This is exactly what I needed to re-coat the drives. Easy to apply and looks good. I recommend if you are using this on your IO Drives be sure to properly prepare the surface before application. I used a light steel wool grade to prep. This is by far the best way to apply and protect your drives than using a spray on coat. Highly recommended!

We dock our boat a month at a time on a brackish tributary of the Chesapeake bay. Being tired of scraping and pressure washing every time I decided to try this paint. Best decision ever. When we took the boat out of the water there was no barnacles or slime buildup. A pricey product but worth every penny. We’re happy and so is our newly restored Crab Tracker boat.

the bottom paint fades ,not sure if that causes it to lose its effectiveness ,but going back to the more expensive paints for peace of mind

Works great we used a different paint last year and it was no good .we had barnacles all over the bottom of the boat at end of season. This year with this great paint it came out of the water and to our delight it had hardly a barnacle on it. We highly recommend this paint. Tested and approved by me the painter.

This paint is for aluminum, iron, and steel boats, aluminum pontoons, and underwater metals. Can be applied to most previously painted surfaces in good condition, including those containing copper-based paint.High-solids, eco-friendly formula provides outstanding, single-season protection against mussels, barnacles, and slime in saltwater, fresh water, and brackish water.

The quart was just enough for 2 coats on the bottom of my 14' starcraft. Looked nice until a unexpected light misty rain came through the next day now it's polka dotted. The paint itself appears to be of good quality.
