Great simple option to get voice controlled fireplace

Wasted my money because the entire setup didn’t come together and it still didn’t work when it arrived. Return window closed and I’m just disappointed in Amazon right now

This was so easy to install. Tied right into the wire that is used for the wall switch. And now it turns on to “Alexa, let there be fire!”

I've been thinking about trying to get my fireplace controlled by Alexa for a long time. Many other things in my house have been controlled for years. The only real issue I had was how to get the electricity to power the switch (and smart plug). I have an electrical blower for my fireplace, so I knew there was power running to the fireplace - so there was hope. Still, I never decided to dig into it until the fireplace stopped working from the switch.I figured out that I could jumpstart my fireplace with the switch on - but then by touching two terminals on the valve together. To me, this meant that the resistance in the switch was too much when on to start the fireplace - but enough to keep it running while it was on. (The thermopile tested low, but over the minimum.) Anyway, since I had to do some bigger adjustments anyway, I decided to try to install this kit.There were other kits that were a couple of dollars cheaper - but the reason I chose this one is because I liked the box for the control module, rather than just an exposed circuit board, and I liked that this kit included the terminal doublers - so that I could have the standard switch and the voice switch working at the same time. (I was annoyed that this was recently a vine review item - but it wasn't offered to me. I was happy to pay for this though because it just worked.)The space under my fireplace is very tight (and I can't pull the insert out of the wall (thanks to some remodelers I had redo my hearth). That said, I was able to add a new outlet to work with the blower (this is separate from this kit). I used a Amazon Smart Plug in the outlet. Once this kit came, it really only took a few minutes to install it and plug it in. (The electrical work was a much bigger deal.)Really, this kit is pretty simple. When the power is provided to it, the switch is on. When the power is off, the switch is closed. So the Amazon Smart Plug (or another brand) is all that's really needed to make it work - and it still has all the same safety features it had before. This kit is NOT powering the valve. The power to open your valve is coming from your thermopile or thermocouple. That's why it won't come on if the pilot is out - even if you had the smart switch on.One other caution, there is a bit of resistance in this switch even when the switch is open. For me (since I had a weak thermopile) it did not work consistently at first. This is not the problem of the control kit - it was an issue with the too small current provided by my thermopile. Anyway, I cleaned off my thermopile and thermocouple and blew out the pilot light (my pilot had a lot of yellow flame before and was blue after cleaning) - then the thermopile provided enough current to open the valve when the smart switch was turned on.My wife loves the new capability to turn on and off the fireplace from across the room. I just like having a new home automation toy that not everyone has yet. I'll update this if the switch breaks, but I'm very happy now.

I already have a smart system in place (Gosund) and I’ve been looking for a way to control my gas fireplace. I got this little unit to use with my existing system and it works perfect. This is an easy and cheap way to add millivolt control to your system. It’s great this is just the millivolt controller so I don’t have to have but yet another desperate smart device, app and account.Installation was super easy: Unplugged the existing remote control unit from my fireplace, this plugged onto the same terminals, plugged this unit into my smart plug, and finally created a program to maintain temperature. I have a lot more with to do to account for possible power and internet outages.

I’m a little confused. So most fireplace controls I’ve used in the past are a black box which is battery operated and they work with a remote control to turn it on and off. Inside the black box creates the circuit loop and disconnect the loop when it’s off.This product is a little black box that is plug in instead of battery, and you have to purchase a separate smart plug so you can use Alexa as your remote. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the black box because the smart plug has the loop disconnect and when you hook this box up to the fireplace, it automatically just turns on the fireplace. So in a sense, it’s just create the bridge to close the loop but on the other hand it wouldn’t work with a smart plug unless it was plug in. But idk wouldn’t it be just as easy to get a remote control that works with Alexa instead of this because then you can use the remote or use your phone. Or maybe it would feel less weird if the Alexa was built into it instead of having to buy another product to get this to work.Maybe I’m just over thinking this but I guess the concept seems a bit clunkyAnd the product didn’t mislead or anything. I just think there might be a simpler way of putting this together.

I know it says it all over the item description, but by the time it got delivered (Yes, only two days) I went to install and was trying to pair it to my network without the plug. Reread instructions and busted out one of my smart plugs. Cool thing is you can use the old wall switch that I use using or Alexa.

After doing a little research, I found what turned out to be this EASY solution to enable Alexa to control my fireplace. I sent the guys an email to ensure their relay would do the trick, and after their immediate and helpful response, I ordered their stuff and installed it in under 5 minutes. This thing worked perfectly! Piece of cake! Works beautifully!! Highly recommended!!
