Proper Size

Correct application is vital to the proper functioning of the brace. Use foot length for a more precise fit as describe on the size chart.

Consider a larger boot if you are near the maximum size and these apply:

  • You wear a wide shoe
  • You will be using bandages or wearing thick socks
  • You have swelling
  • You typically like a looser fit

Consider a smaller boot if you are near the minimum size and these apply:

  • You wear a narrow shoe or have slim feet
  • You typically like a tighter fit

Determining Fit

Refer to size chart and understanding fit guide found in images and video that demonstrates proper application and fit.

Proper Application of United Ortho Ankle Air Walking Boot

United Ortho

Step 1

Open all the straps. Take the liner out of the boot. Place your foot in the liner making sure to slide your heel to the back of the liner.

For proper fit, completely remove the top strap.

*Additional comfort pads provided to fill gaps in the liner and provide additional padding where needed.

United Ortho

Step 2

Close liner starting at your toes. Make sure the liner is snug around your foot and leg.

United Ortho

Step 3

Place your foot with liner inside the boot making sure your heel is pushed all the way to the back of the boot.

Attach and fasten the top strap once your foot is in the proper position.

United Ortho

Step 4

Fasten the straps starting at the toes and working up.

*Toes may extend past end of the liner. If toes extend past rigid shell, a larger size is needed. Be sure your heel is properly positioned in the back of the boot.

*If numbness, tingling, or other discomfort is experienced, loosen the strap until comfortable. If any of these symptoms persist, contact your medical professional.

United Ortho

Step 5

To inflate: Turn “inflate/deflate” know clockwise until it stops turning. Press and release blue air bulb several times until the air liner provides desired support.

*Liner may expand during initial use. Additional pumps may be required to return to desired support.

United Ortho

Step 6

To deflate: Turn “inflate/deflate” knob counterclockwise until it stops turning.

*If air liner is fully deflated, it may take upwards of 50 pumps to feel the desired support.

One of the straps broke on second day. I finally got replacement straps after a delay as my first two complaints got lost. They sent it to me priority. Two days

I have a chronic ankle issue where I have a strained ankle at least once every 3 months. This thing helps the cut the healing process in half. It's nice and snug, but comfortable. Only downside is that even though the instructions recommend at least 50 pumps, it's more like 70.

Needed this boot to replace one I had for over 1 year due to having a posterior tibial tendon tear. I fit nice and tight and is keeping my ankle stable so I can help it heal along with physical therapy and avoid surgery.

Clumsy fellow landed and twisted my ankle playing ice hockey. I felt a click. I felt pain. I didn’t want to spend hours in an emergency care room getting X-rays when I could tell it wasn’t broken. I ordered this and it was great. Well made, easy to put on, the air pump got things tight and easy to adjust by releasing the valve.Kept me mobile whereas otherwise I’d have been laid up. Extra padding is provided if needed.Great product, great price. Very satisfied.

Got this for recovery after Grade 2 ankle sprain. This is not a bad product, seems to protect the ankle, and I could walk in it (after the 72 hours of RICE), but just be wary, it feels quite heavy. I had to call the ortho doc and tell them it was causing me heel, knee, and lower back pain after just 2 days. They let me switch straight to the ASO ankle brace with my shoe and start weight-bearing. Everyone's situation is different, but for me, this just wasn't the right product.

The boot is sturdy. However the pump is PAINFUL! Digs into my leg when walking so much that I can think of NOTHING but how much it hurts! Going back.
