This is a very sturdy and well built mount. I tried the hardware special approach. Just buy this, you wont regret it.

I will eventually put a trolling motor on my canoe. I know I can build a mount out of wood and attach it to my canoe. But when I saw this item I knew I had to have it. While I have yet to hook it up to my canoe, I can tell you this is just exactly what I wanted. One reviewer has pointed out the shortness of the bolts that hold this together. When I do finally install this I will use Loctite with the bolts and I will make sure there will also be something underneath the bolts on the bottom to keep them from falling out. Otherwise this is a rugged nice looking trolling motor mount that should work great.

This motor mount is suitable for light-duty applications. When used with a 55-lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor on a 10-foot kayak, noticeable flex is observed due to the mount's lack of structural support. Therefore, this mount may be more appropriate for smaller trolling motors. The low cost accurately reflects its light-duty design.

Works well enough for being one of the lower priced options. I mounted it on my canoe as you can see in the picture. Used a couple pieces of 2” x 1/4” 6063 T6 anodized aluminum bar for corrosion resistance and 1/4x20 stainless bolts with locknuts. Aluminum cuts like wood and you can sand the sharp edges for safety. Don’t use carbon steel bolts with aluminum! Recipe for galvanic corrosion. Agree with a couple reviews about needing Allen wrenches to tighten up the bolts first. I used loctite thread locker to make sure they don’t re-loosen. Under full power my 55 lb thrust trolling motor caused a little deflection/bending. Lower settings seem solid. I think this setup will work. If the bracket fails eventually, I’ll replace with one that is angle braced between the motor mount and the base plate. Don’t use it a lot so it will probably last a while.

Though I'm yet to test this mount on the water, it seems very solid and it fits my Minn Kota 40 nicely. To assemble, you'll need two Allen wrenches, 3/16 and 5/32, and the 3/16 will have to be at about 3" long to reach the bolts through the plastic section. That was a surprise, since the instructions never mentioned the need for those tools, much less their sizes. The screws for the hull attachment are Phillips. I would think stainless bolts thru a kayak hull would be stronger and some small gaskets or washers would be a good idea for a watertight seal, but only screws were included in my shipment. Every boat hull is different, so a little creativity may be required for your particular anchor method.Looks and feels solid after installation. I'll update the review if anything is wonky after the first few in-water uses.

This trolling motor universal deck mount is almost perfect, and my only gripe is that they didn't bolts and nuts, but just included screws. If you are able to use bolts and nuts with this mount, you are better off doing that but sometimes that option isn't available. This mount is normally used at the back of the boat in a fixed position. One of the problems that a lot of motor mounts have is the amount of torque produced by the trolling motor, the cheaper can't take the additional torque. The hardware is just not strong enough to handle it, but this hardware is. This Feimire mount, which is made out of commercial grade aircraft aluminum, and can handle the torque without any twisting of the mount. It works much easier if you are attaching this to a composite or plastic boat/kayak. I am doing a DIY project using molli mounts on my inflatable kayak. The build quality is much stronger than what I anticipated, and it is priced very competitively. This is the perfect angel that I needed for my DIY project. Compared to the leading manufacturer, this is equal if not better. I highly recommend.

This motor mount was difficult to assemble. It requires that you line up the t nuts blindly and does NOT come with any tools. Also, it is sharp.

….and I’m sorry to say, those nuts are not very inspiring in their construction. I doubt I would ever feel confident about attaching even the lightest weight trolling motor, and would NEVER, EVER do so without an extremely sturdy leash.I will keep it, but modify it so that there is a much stronger connection between the two pieces. As it stands it is an expensive accident waiting to happen.
