I got these for tapping the ends of a lot of aluminum extrusions using a drill and wow was totally worth it! If you want to tap something using a drill you absolutely need a tap with this geometry. If you want to tap aluminum you can use a traditional taper tap but these definitely make it easier (no aluminum sticking to the teeth). These taps, some Tap Magic cutting fluid, my Dewalt hammer drill (on the Drill setting and the lowest gear) and my air compressor to blow out the chips after tapping each end, allowed me to do 50-60 holes in the fraction of time it would have taken me to do them by hand, not to mention saving my wrists from all that turning!Quick tip, if you're doing something similar, get some pipe cleaners, fold one in half and then in half again so it's 1/4th the original length, chuck that in your drill, insert it in the hole you've tapped and run the drill while you wiggle it around. That helps clean out the cutting fluid and any remaining chips, you can get about 4-6 holes before the pipe cleaner needs replaced.
