Not all 55 gallon steel drum barrels are the same as I found out, and this lid is the correct one to get to cover your barrel if it came with a closed head (welded on lid) in the first place. Closed head versus open head barrels have different diameters. I got the barrel cheap, but had to cut the metal lid off the thing near the outer rim. I did leave the rounded outer lip/rim in tact by the way. This cover slid onto the barrel top just fine until it reached the inner cover nubs, and just required a light pulling outwards once the inner nubs reached the barrel top rim to get them past that point. It isn't going to seal your drum, but does its intended job of just keeping rain out of my burn barrel. A little pricey, but at least I didn't have to make something myself and this seems like it should last a very long time.As for concern over this blowing off - I don't see that happening. The nubs should lock this well enough under the barrel top rim. I expect the heavy, empty barrel will blow over before the lid could blow off.

Poor design for what I want. Because of the raised cross it does not seal on top of the drum. There is an air gap. Won't keep the frogs out of my water barrel like that. I'm going to have to glue some foam or something in that area of the lid. Could have been designed better.

Its plastic so I can only use it to keep water out of a cold burn barrel. Pricey but it does the job, and I didn't have to fabricate something else. It has stayed in place in 35-40 MPH winds.
