The Visual Schedule for Home
This is a visual schedule (or visual timetable) of 40 picture cards that together create a visual schedule for use at home by adults. This makes a great starter pack if you need visual resources but don't know where to begin. The set comes with two display boards and each of the cards has a VELCRO Brand loop coin stuck on the back, allowing you to easily attach them to the VELCRO Brand hook strip on the boards and change them around as you need to.
The pictures or visual symbols included are:
get up - breakfast - lunch - dinner - snack - drink - tea / coffee - toilet - brush teeth - get dressed - get undressed - brush hair - bath - shower - wash hair - shave (men) - shave (women) - put on deodorant - tidy up - car - appointment - shopping - go for a walk - read a book - meet a friend - story - bedtime - nightclothes on - visitor - day out - see family - T.V. - wash - wash hands - take medication - phone - tablet - computer - home - shoes on - coat on.
Included in the pack are:
Two Backing Boards
Each measuring 297 x 105mm, these are made of foamex and each with a VELCRO brand hook strip down the middle. These can easily be stuck to a wall with sticky tack. Together, the boards can display up to 10 visual cards at once.
40 Visual Symbol Cards
These measure 65 x 55mm each and are made of polyprothelene. We've chosen this material because it is incredibly durable and therefore the cards won't get destroyed by heavy handling. In particular they are:
- are non tear
- are non crease
- are water resistant
- have rounded corners
VELCRO Brand hook and loop
Each card has a VELCRO Brand loop coin on the back allowing you to easily attach them to the hook strip on the board and move them around easily.
Featuring The Beanies
You will find our lovable characters, The Beanies throughout the artwork in the Visual Timetable For Home, representing all different aspects of life. They are designed to be gender neutral and age neutral so that as many individuals can identify with them as possible. They are also a lot of fun!
Your child may benefit from visuals if:
- they ask what’s coming next over and over again.
- they struggle to follow instructions spoken out loud to them.
- you would like to encourage them to be more independent.
- they struggle with transitioning from one activity to the next.
- they get frustrated because they can't communicate to you
Why Use Visuals?
When children see what is coming next they feel more calm and in control. Visuals are an effective way of communicating to someone what is happening because they:
- support routine and transition
- don't disappear like words do
- have no tone of voice
- allow for processing time
- can be transferred from environment to environment
- are universal across all languages
- give someone a voice, allowing them to communicate with you

I needed to create a visual shower schedule to engage with a client suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. We posted it on the wall near the shower to give her visual cues. The cards are colorful and well laminated. I really appreciated not having to create this from scratch! I definitely recommend.
