This enclosure is pretty fast, for example, when moving large files, I can consistently hit ~250-260 MB/s read/write rates when using Seagate X16 16TB drives set up as individual volumes or just a smidgen less when in a RAID1 mirror. And when in a RAID0 striped config using the same drives, I can almost double the above rates (except about maybe 2% slower due to overhead). But the drive comes with virtually no documentation minus a tiny foldout pamphlet...I had planned to use this in a RAID1 mirrored config with the drives mentioned above, but as I mentioned, there is virtually no documentation about this. So what happens if a one of the drives develops errors? Will maybe an LED flash red or will the enclosure emit a beep or will something else happen? Who knows because it is not documented. The only guidance that comes in the tiny foldout pamphlet is "If a drive is damaged and you need to replace it with another one, make sure that the replaced one is new or has been formatted with a non-RAID." Still no indication of how I would know this is the case and which of the two would be faulty. Presumably it would be via a native Windows system error because no special software is needed for this enclosure.I will eventually play around with this to figure it out all out, but right now I need to put it to use so I have just left the two drives as individual volumes. Yeah, it would sure be nice to have at least a minimum amount of documentation with this thing...

This is a small, brilliantly designed enclosure that is very simple to add your drives to. All of the required screws to hold your drives are included as well as a screwdriver and tool to change the dip switches if required. I dropped one star because the fan is loud and drive noise is very evident.

They did a very bad design. The vertical box is damn unstable.Be sure that you will tip it over very easily. It will fall on its side and your disks will be hit with all its force. It fell on its side, I did not even touch it.

I opted to test the "WAVLINK 2-Bay Enclosure" for a solution to expand my desktop storage without investing in a full Network Attached Storage (NAS) system. It seems to get the job done.Pros:+ RAID Functionality: The enclosure supports multiple RAID modes (Normal, LARGE, RAID 1, RAID 0), choices between: speed, capacity, and data redundancy. Be sure to choose what you need before installing the drives first.+ Connectivity: USB-C is fast enough for mechanical drives and SATA SSDs. Additionally, the downstream Type-C port is useful for chaining other devices, though not a necessity for my setup.+ Build Quality: Constructed with an aluminum alloy shell, seem to be robust. Build in fan is also niceCons:- Separate Power Supply: We are in 2025, get on with USB-C, please. The need for a separate 12V power supply is a bit of a drawback. While I managed to find a USB-PD to 12V cable that works with my dock’s charger, this is less than ideal.Overall it is a nice solution to desktop expansion problem. You can go with a pair of independent drives, or use hardware RAID, can make use of the USB-C bandwidth, and don't waste too much space on your desktop.

I run this enclosure with two 2TB Seagate HDD in "LARGE" mode. It was easy to setup and it works as expected. My only complaint is the fan is noisy .....it does not appear to adjust to HDD temperature.

Great little product. Smaller than I expected. Setting up was a breeze. Kind of wish I'd looked into this sooner really. I like that it has a cooling fan built into it. I'm just starting to learn about the RAID system and it's nice this unit has toggle switches for that. With the potential of having up to 44TB of storage I should be more than covered for the foreseeable future.

Taming the Data DelugeIn today's digital age, the proliferation of data is a double-edged sword. While it presents immense opportunities, it also brings the challenge of storage. Fortunately, solutions like the WAVLINK 2-Bay Hard Drive Enclosure offer a beacon of hope for individuals and businesses seeking to navigate this data deluge effectively. The WAVLINK enclosure sets a high bar with its impressive connectivity options, headlined by the 10Gbps USB-C 3.2 interface. This translates to lightning-fast data transfer speeds, making it ideal for handling large files and backups. Furthermore, the enclosure supports a maximum capacity of 44TB, providing ample space for even the most demanding users. Whether it's high-resolution photos, videos, or critical business documents, the WAVLINK enclosure can accommodate it all. However, it is important to note that actual transfer speeds may vary depending on the specific hard drives used and the capabilities of the host device. Nevertheless, the inclusion of USB-C 3.2 ensures that users can harness the full potential of their storage devices, facilitating a seamless and efficient workflow. What impresses me most about the WAVLINK enclosure is its support for four RAID modes: RAID Normal/LARGE/1/0. This versatility allows users to configure their storage solution according to their specific needs. For instance, RAID 1 provides data redundancy, ensuring that data is mirrored across both drives, safeguarding against drive failure. Conversely, RAID 0 prioritizes performance by striping data across both drives, resulting in significantly faster read and write speeds. The inclusion of multiple RAID modes empowers users to strike a balance between storage capacity, performance, and data security. Moreover, the built-in cooling fans contribute to the enclosure's reliability by preventing overheating, even during extended periods of operation. This is particularly crucial when dealing with large data transfers or when utilizing RAID modes that generate increased heat. The WAVLINK 2-Bay Hard Drive Enclosure boasts a sleek and robust aluminum alloy shell, exuding an aura of durability and sophistication. The enclosure's compact design allows for easy integration into any workspace, while the aluminum construction effectively dissipates heat, enhancing the longevity of the enclosed drives.I found this 2-bay hard drive enclosure to be an excellent option for users looking for a reliable, high-performance, and feature-rich storage solution. It's a worthwhile investment for both individuals and businesses alike.
