The weather station can be operated either hard wired or run off of two AAA batteries. The power cable is a barrel connector to USB-A; unfortunately the barrel connector means that if you lose or damage the cable it will be difficult to find a replacement. When hard wired, the display stays backlit all the time, with the option for it to auto-dim based on a light sensor (“light-at-night mode”). When run on batteries, the display backlight turns off until you press the light button on top of the frame, which turns the backlight on for 15 seconds. In a well-lit room, you can read the display without turning on the backlight, but it’s still a much better experience with it on. The battery life is surprisingly good- I have been using it on battery power for a couple of months without getting a low battery warning. The device loses all of the settings when you disconnect it from power if you don’t have the AAA batteries installed.This weather station does have a whole slew of features and displays a bunch of information. Setup can be a little bit intimidating at first- it comes with what seems like a small book as a user guide, though it’s not as bad as it seems since it covers 5 languages. The date and time are set manually (not atomic as described), as well as the location, which is chosen from a list of cities. The location is used to display the sunrise and sunset times, and possibly for the auto DST (daylight savings time).When plugged in, you can choose the brightness level of the screen via a button on the back of the unit, but the settings seem either buggy or not as described in the user guide. Keeping it at the brightest level with light-at-night mode on worked fine, but changing the brightness level to anything else seems to make it revert to the battery display mode (backlight off until the light button is pressed).Overall I do like this weather station. It has the features that I care about most, the indoor and outdoor temperature sensors and forecast all seem reasonably accurate, and the battery life means I can hang it up near my coat closet like I was hoping (no outlets nearby!) The price has dropped since I first got the device, and at the current price of $30 it’s a great value.

Overall we're really happy with this. It takes some getting used to and we definitely needed the instructions to figure it out, but once we read through the instructions the setup was very easy and quick. It works great overall, it seems to read accurately, the display is easy to see and read, and I like that the screen dims when it's unplugged. This ensures that it continues to work instead of shutting off, but it won't drain the batteries too quickly.Overall I'm very pleased with it!

The device quickly paired with the external sensor, and its range is impressive. I installed the sensor on my porch and placed the weather station in my basement without any issues. However, I wish it had a rechargeable battery or at least a memory function. During my initial setup, I configured the date, time, timezone, etc., but when I unplugged it to move it elsewhere, I had to re-enter all that information. While this is not a major issue, if you plan to move it around as I have, ensure you insert two AAA batteries first. The temperature readings are accurate, within a degree of my other measuring devices.Unfortunately, the LCD is difficult to read from a lower angle. I placed mine on a cabinet in my living room to check it throughout the day, but when I sit on my slightly lower couch, it becomes illegible. Additionally, despite several snowfalls since I acquired it, the display has only shown rain animations. Overall, it performs its intended function, but I am not overly impressed.

I like the size of this weather station and that it has a stand or you can hang it on the wall. It indicates trends in weather (is it getting better in the next 6-12 hours or worse?), but doesn't measure rain, or necessarily even indicate if it is currently raining, just what is coming. The colors are nice, but if you look at the display at an angle, you will see everything that can be displayed, rather than what is actually displayed... you have to look at it straight on. The sunset/sunrise feature is nice, as long as you have it set to your actual location.Overall, it is a nice station.

This unit (as of this review) does not automatically set the date and time; it must be set manually.I was further disappointed that it does not come with a power adapter. The product description mentions a power adapter, but it needs to clarify whether it comes with the unit.It comes with a USB cord for plugging into a power adapter, so you’ll be set if you have one left over from your phone or tablet.The unit has several positive features if you can get past these two shortcomings. The display is bright and clear from a wide viewing angle (indoor and outdoor temperature numbers are the same color).The clock displays seconds, which is great for resetting the microwave and stove clocks when the power goes out.The unit connected to the outdoor temperature sensor in less than a minute.Despite not having the advertised automatic time setting feature and lacking a power adapter, this weather station has some redeeming qualities.
