About this item

  • BLUSH-FREE 207 SPECIAL CLEAR HARDENER is an excellent choice for clear coating application. Blended with 105 Epoxy Resin, 207 Hardener will not blush or turn cloudy in humid conditions. Thin film applications roll out and tip off smoothly, requiring less sanding in preparation for finish coatings.
  • THIS WATER-CLEAR EPOXY curing agent was developed for coating and fiberglass cloth application where an exceptionally clear, moisture-resistant, natural wood finish is desired. Mix it with WEST SYSTEM 105 Epoxy Resin at a 3-parts resin to 1-part hardener ratio.
  • STRUCTURAL BONDING PROPERTIES are similar to other 105/20X resin and hardener combinations. Easily modified with WEST SYSTEM fillers, pigments, and additives to suit an enormous variety of construction and repair projects, including fiberglass boat repair, strip kayak and canoe construction.
  • POT LIFE AT 72°F (22°C) is 20 to 26 minutes. Cures to a solid state in 10 to 15 hours. Cures to maximum strength in 4 to 7 days. Minimum recommended working temperature is 60°F (16°C). Does not contain VOCs and has relatively high flash point and no solvent odor, making it much friendlier to use than styrenated resins.

Popular Uses of WEST SYSTEM Epoxy

A structural fillet for bonding with WEST SYSTEM Epoxy

Bonding & Filleting

WEST SYSTEM Epoxy is excellent for structural bonding and fillets. It can be easily thickened with a number of fillers to modify consistency and strength.

There are two types of structural bonding that can be done with epoxy.

TWO-STEP BONDING is the preferred method for most situations because it promotes maximum epoxy penetration into the bonding surface and prevents epoxy-starved joints.

SINGLE-STEP BONDING is appropriate when joints will have minimal loads and excess epoxy absorption into porous surfaces is not a problem. In both cases, epoxy bonds best when it is worked into the surface with a roller or brush.

Coating, Laminating & Clear Finishing

COATING AND LAMINATING are popular uses of WEST SYSTEM Epoxy. Epoxy wets out fiberglass cloth, protecting the substrate while letting its beauty shine through. We recommend WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin with blush-free, water-clear 207 Special Clear Hardener for bright finishes and clear coats.

COATING involves rolling the epoxy onto a surface with a foam roller, applying it with a brush, or spreading the epoxy over the surfaces with a plastic spreader. .

There are two methods for laminating with fiberglass and epoxy.

THE DRY METHOD refers to placing the cloth over a dry surface, wetting the cloth with epoxy and spreading the epoxy over the cloth, smoothing it as you go.

THE WET METHOD involves applying the cloth to an epoxy-coated surface after the wet-out coat becomes tacky, which helps it cling to vertical or overhead surfaces. This method makes it more difficult to position the cloth, so the dry method is the preferred, especially when using with thinner cloth.

Rocks cast in WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin/207 Special Clear Hardener

Clear Casting & Pouring

CASTING AND POURING are best done with WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin and 207 Special Clear Hardener.

AVOIDING UNCONTROLLED EXOTHERM is important, as this heat reaction can quickly spoil the casting.

Epoxy cures by exothermic (heat) reaction. That heat must be kept under control when when creating a thick casting (greater than ¼”). For thick castings, add epoxy in multiple layers . When the first pour is tacky like the back of masking tape, a second pour can be made. When the epoxy cures enough to become tacky, it means the previous layer has begun to cool down and will not contribute heat to the next layer. Adding another layer at this stage allows you to skip any surface prep.

If the poured epoxy casting cures past the tacky stage, allow the epoxy to finish curing then sand ot dull and clean the surface before applying the next epoxy layer. This will ensure good adhesion between layers.

Fiberglass boat repaired with WEST SYSTEM Epoxy

Fiberglass Boat Repairs & Construction

This vintage 15' Larson Thunderhawk was repaired with WEST SYSTEM Epoxy.

Damage from collisions, groundings, the forces of nature, and aging make it common for fiberglass boats to need repairs.

Effectively repairing a fiberglass boat requires a superior structural adhesive, that adheres to polyester resin, fiberglass, wood, metal and other materials.

Unlike polyester resin which can shrink from 5% to 8%, creating stress concentrations at the repair joint, epoxy doesn’t shrink. It's also a more effective moisture barrier. Epoxy forms a tenacious mechanical bond with cured polyester and other materials in secondary bonding. Since epoxy is more durable than polyester, the epoxy repair may be even stronger than the original structure.

Ease of use, ready availability, safety, and easy access to how-to information makes WEST SYSTEM Epoxy excellent for fiberglass boat repair.

WEST SYSTEM Product Selection Guide

WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin can be paired with one of 4 hardeners and modified with fillers & additives.

How to choose the right WEST SYSTEM Epoxy products for your project:

1. Start with 105 Epoxy Resin, the basic ingredient of all WEST SYSTEM Epoxy compounds. Use 300 Mini Pumps for convenient and accurate metering.

2. Mix with one of four WEST SYSTEM hardeners. Select a hardener for its intended use and for the cure speed best suited for your job in the temperature range in which you are working.

3. Add one of six WEST SYSTEM fillers to thicken the mixture as needed. Select a filler for its handling characteristics or cured physical properties. Or, add WEST SYSTEM additives to provide specific coating properties. WEST SYSTEM pigments can be used to change the epoxy's color.

Great product. Always use West Systems. The seller here is absolutely useless. They could not ship the product eventhough I purchased 4 litres of the stuff 4 years ago through Amazon.

The visual clarity is excellent, but I still have not been able to get a finish without pinholes even with a good heat gun blasting. I just end up sanding to 1200 and using a 2k spray clear coat, which produces beautiful results.

You mix this with 105 resin, apply it to wood ( I suggest two or three coats) that will be up against the weather, and it will give a good protective coat that should last for years. For UV protection, put on two coats of spar varnish. I suggest Captain's Flagship. West System has quality products and excellent customer support.I am currently using it for mahogany garage door skins.

I primarily do wood working but have recently started wrapping some of the pieces of my projects in carbon fiber. I reached out to West directly to find out which product is best for what I am doing. 207 was it (combined with 105 resin). It mixes very easily, goes on smooth, flows well, and permeates the fabric without any issue at all. I was a little surprised at the pot time since it's far longer than i am used to. But that makes it even better when doing things like laminating composites since it gives you more time for adjustments. I really like it and I will continue using it for the foreseeable future.

I am an avid West Systems user and recently purchased this clear hardener to coat the top of a live edge table. The results were stunning! As long as you have the pump systems to ensure your measuring is flawless, you can't go wrong. I highly recommend all West System epoxy products and I have all three hardeners that I use for various products (205, 206 and 207). Consistent and beautiful results.

I used this for a rustic oak floor project, injecting epoxy into nail holes, work holes, cracks and loose knots. First time using this system and couldn't have been happier with the ease of use (especially with the measured pumps!) and results. I did some black epoxy (chalk line powder) and some clear (hence the 207). In fact I even did some larger holes with a layer of black, filled over with clear for an interesting look.

I am impressed with it. I tried a few sample pieces of wood before using it on a real project so that I could get a good feel for working with it.This stuff is very clear and does not yellow in a short period of time. However, it is not UV resistant.Make sure you mix it with the 105 resin at an ambient air temperature of about 70+ degrees Fahrenheit to help prevent air bubbles from forming. It is OK if a few bubbles form since you can use a heat gun or torch to pull them out after you poor it on the surface. Heat gun is preferable. While it may be hard after 24 hours of applying it, it actually does not become fully hard until about 7 days later. It levels out very well. The final thickness ends up being about 1/16 to 3/32 of an inch. However, you can also spread it to a very thin layer with a squeegee if you want to use it as a base/sealer coat for finishing furniture. It fills in the wood grain pours nicely.I found it to work even better if you rub on a thin coat of polyurethane prior to applying the epoxy. This helps to prevent air bubbles from forming due to tiny air pockets in the wood. It does easily soak into end grain; so about two coats of polyurethane will be needed on the end grain to slow the absorption rate. The pumps they offer () are a great help to meter out the correct quantity of chemicals. However, the pumps do not necessarily work correctly at each pump action. Some of the pumping action will suck in air on the up stroke and prevent the pump from correctly metering the next output on the down stroke. Therefore, be attentive when using the pumps. The West System 207 hardener and 105 resin mix at a ratio of 3:1For most projects, I used this kind of mixing cup () since smaller cups can be too small, and I don't need large cups very often. This 207 hardener will not sick to these cups when fully hardened in them.Customer service at West System is excellent. I got a live person who referred me to a very knowledgeable representative in their office.
