It went up easily, worked perfectly (pointed due east) to run driveway lights at night only, but died after about 7 years. No evidence of water or dust leaks, it just wore out. Still, that’s only a buck or two per year, so I gave it a good rating.

Easy to install. Works great so far. I used this to replace an annoying motion sensor. Now I can save money as it automatically turns on at dusk and off at the break of dawn. I wish they came in white. This item is light gray. I spray painted it white to match my light and it still works as it should.

So far this has been excellent. I have a light that I mounted in a tree that our family likes to watch deer (and other animals) close to our house. Some of them have become very tame. There is know reason to have the light on during the day so I decided to install a dust to dawn photo sensor. I first mounted a straight one that had no option but to point directly at the other trees. It worked just okay but gave me problems from time to time until it finally would not cut the light off during the daytime. This swivel photo lets me angle the sensor directly in the gap through the trees (see photo). It is weather proof and so far has worked very well. It does not come on too soon or go off too late. If it lasts a long time then it will be perfect.

Works great. I have a large outdoor light that's on my power pole that's about 25' up. Last summer the pole was hit by lightning and the photo-sensor on the light stopped working. The light stayed on 24/7. I bought this because I did not want to replace the light or for that matter be 25' up and that close to live power lines. I installed this in the junction box at the base of the pole which is between two buildings, so not in direct sunlight most of the day. It works the light perfectly. Was simple to wire and had clear instructions. The only warning that I have is be prepared to shell out some money for a step drill bit. I paid $35 for the bit at a local hardware store. The hole required is much larger than 1/2" closer to 7/8".

Bought three of these in June. I got around to installing the 3rd one on August 8th, it does not work properly. It makes light intermittently come on and off. I went to "my orders to return this item and can't. One of the few times that I was disappointed with Amazon's return Policy. If I had bought this at a local retailer I would have been able to return it no questions asked with proof of purchase. 2 out of 3 work, I guess these are good odds considering the price. I just hope the other 2 don't fail.

Installed this over a month ago, works well. I had a screw in unit bought on Amazon that lasted about 2 years. My location is on a porch roof, all covered - not exposed to rain. However, it is in the Florida Keys, where we have constant salt in the air, and things corrode even when stored inside an air conditioned home.Hope this one last longer, but the life of these little cheap electronics is not forever - if I get 5 years out of this I'll be happy. Simple to install, if you've ever replaced a wall switch or receptacle and screwed a wire nut on, you'll have no trouble here. I did not mount mine in a box, as the electrical box was recessed into the ceiling. I have it installed at my shop, which I rent, I just have it dangling by the wires (not the best idea) but there are no sharp corners, so I think it will survive until it wears out. I would not recommend you do this though! Buy a box extension if you need, then you can screw the extension to the existing box and install this into one of the nockouts in the extension.

Okay, so I don't believe in charms, but if I did then this product would be one.My only real gripe is that this product only comes in a BLACK plastic body, which will degrade faster in direct sunlight. To be fair, I'll admit that I do have another "Outdoor Swivel Photo Control" exactly like this one, with a black plastic body, which has been in direct sunlight every day for 5 years. The body hasn't cracked yet and it still works at turning the two flood lights on and off at the correct time of day. But any good engineer worth his salt would have recommended that this product be made using WHITE plastic to help thwart the effects of the sun. Why this only seems to be made in black is anyone's guess. Also, other reviewers here mentioned about being careful to not over-tighten the adjustment screw on the swivel. That is true, so be careful. Another reviewer mentioned rainwater getting into the chassis, so it might be a good idea to put a thin bead of silicone around the edge as a last step in the installation process, just to be sure.In my opinion, this issues are relatively minor and the product does work quite well. As an add-on to an existing flood lamp fixture, it's a decent price for 5 years of daily service.3/25/2013 UPDATE: Well I am a bit disappointed. The unit stopped turning lights off at dawn. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the whole unit was completely filled with rain water! Apparently the electrical box, which is mounted vertically on a tree, was not sealed completely and so rainwater seeped into the area of the unit where the wires come out. Thankfully I had back up unit, so after mounting it, I used clear silicon sealant and completely FILLED the backside (again, where the wires come out). Then I put a new gasket on the box before attaching the cover, and just to be sure, I applied silicon over all the seams on the outside of the unit including all over the electrical box. I know these units last for at least 4 years, so I guess this is just something you HAVE to do in order to make sure that rainwater never gets in.
