I ordered this rim (among other parts) to completely replace an old one whose hub was failing - it arrived promptly enough and saved my daily (home-work-home) commute. While I don't consider myself experienced enough to strictly review its quality, here are some quick notes:- You may need to install a rim strip. Though the spokes are recessed away from the tube itself, depending on your riding style and/or tire pressure the edges of the holes can still cut into the tube over time, causing a flat on the interior side which is not as easy to just patch up.- Due to the urgency of needing to replace the wheel quickly, I discovered too late that this is an 8-speed wheel when my bicycle is 7-speed. That's on me, always double-check the specs before purchasing! It still fits the frame, though, and I could work around the rest easy enough. Not a perfect fix (I recycled a gear from the old sprockets to fill in the extra 1/8", but it leaves the rear derailleur not quite calibrated properly) but it's close enough that I can still use the bike normally while I go looking around for a rim with the correct (7-speed) size hub.

My main issue is the axle on this wheel it TIGHT. It has hardly any spin action when it's on the rack. Hard to turn by hand as well. I was going to repack the bearings but I can't get the axle nuts off. Now I've dinged it up a bit and can't return it.It will make a nice backup, but that' wasn't what I was looking for.

Bought this in 2018 and it is still straight and strong even after flying off sidewalk curbs numerous times with back wheel bags and around 250 pounds of weight. Twelve-gauge spokes are the way to go for the back wheel. Update, it is now July of 2023, and the wheel is a good as ever. This is a 5 star PLUS product!!!!!

I'm an old guy, 69, that rides a lot. The wheel I replaced had about 30,000 miles and many stress cracks where the spokes attached to the outer rim. Been trying for two months to get my local bike shop in Fishers, IN to get me a wheel. Got tired of waiting and did what I should have done to start with, check Amazon. Received the wheel in three days. Put the cassette on, put the wheel on the bike and check the shifting. Perfect, no adjustment needed. Had to adjust the brakes a bit. This wheel is built like a tank. I've never seen spokes this thick. Took it out for a ride and the wheel is true as can be. Top of the line in my book. So in my world, when I need another one of these down the road, it will not be available. Problem solved. I'm ordering another today.

I bought this specifically because I had the same hub on my last wheel and wanted to match it to avoid fitment issues. Well Wheel Masters advertised it (see screen shot) with the hub but instead installs their own in house one.This was the last component needed to finish my gravel build and I have no time to play shipping games. I'll run the wheel as is with the Wheel Masters hub installed. Hoping Amazon sees this or the retailer and we can address the situation.I will not be returning it as its needed. I will update in the future on the durability of the Wheel Master AQ-1000 hub so stars may increase.To Wheel Master be truthful in your descriptions! This seems like a well made wheel.

This does not have a Shimano hub as advertised. It is a Wheel Master AQ-1000. Furthermore, it came with the cones way too tight and I had to take it to a bike shop to get it adjusted. It was so tight it felt like sand was in the bearings even though there was none. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have permanently damaged the bearings or races because it spins smooth as glass now.When I received it, it had small gouges on the braking surface and thereabouts like it had been dropped on coarse concrete. I had to file some jagged bits off before letting a brake pad touch it. It arrived in a factory box, so i think this happened at the factory.With the cons out of the way, lets get to the pros:Its a beefy wheel without weighing a ton. The wheel this was replacing on my 2010 Specialized Crosstrail had much thinner spokes and they were starting to pop one every couple weeks. The spokes on this one are much thicker. It came perfectly true and after a few hundred miles put on it with my 213lbs, its still perfectly straight. So far, the Wheel Master hub is holding up and its a shame the listing lies about it being something else because it might actually be a good hub. Time will tell.If you go into this expecting to not get the hub that's in the listing and you're prepared to have the cone nuts adjusted, it seems to be a solid wheel. The rim and spokes certainly are, we'll see if the hub is too.FYI, mine came drilled for Schrader valves, so expect to need adapters if your tubes are Presta.

I needed a wheel to replace the rear of a Giant Escape 2. Im a big guy, 6-3 280, and this wheel is PERFECT! Its really strong and feels solid. Not that much heavier than the stock wheel. And very straight and true out of the box.
