This kalimba (kuh-LIM-buh) is a very well built thumb piano that has seven keys. Each one is made from a smooth, sanded coconut shell, topped with a piece of solid wood and a metal bridge. Playable out of the box, but can also be tuned by gently loosening the screws, moving the tines in (higher pitch) or out (lower pitch), and tightening the screws. The tines can also be easily re positioned to give more or less room between them, for your playing comfort. The kalimba is also known as a thumb piano, and is derived from the more complex South African mbira, and is played by plucking the keys with the thumbs of each hand whilst holding the coconut body in the palms. The sound created is very melodic and resonant, very "tribal" sounding. Covered by our satisfaction guarantee, this kalimba features: * SIZE IS 3" TALL X 10 X 7. Just right for small hands or adult hands to handle and play. * 7 tunable metal keys securely mounted on a metal bridge - Tune to your preference * One hole in the top for amplification and resonance - Sounds louder than it looks * Hand crafted. Well built. Great sound. Artwork by hand. * Each one is hand crafted by cultural artisans, so minor variations in design will exist * As each coconut is unique, the size and shape of the kalimba body will also have minor variations. ----

When I got this, it was not in tune, and I was very disappointed with the workmanship and the sound. But I spent a couple of hours on you tube and worked the tuning in G and now it has a very pleasant calming sound and somehow, I keep wanting to play it. A good first foray into kalimbas but just know that it may not come tuned. Mine is quite melodic now.

This is cuter than I expected but the sound is about kids level for fun. I have a $30 Karimba I love to play on(I’m not a musician of any sort) for fun that sounds way better than this. So if you’re looking for an actual instrument don’t buy this one. If ur shopping more for appearance this is adorable. If Amazon did half stars I’d give it 2 & 1/2
