Truck w/ lift gate delivered crate w/ no issues. (25T Model) I chose this method to avoid a 45 mile tow from the big box store. I assembled it by myself using a winch to lift the big beam and cylinder into a vertical position. I'm an old guy, and this was really not an issue. This beam assembly is really heavy, and would hurt you bad if it fell on you though. The welds are beautiful and quality appeared to be good in general. I figured it would not be shipped with the hydraulic oil, and it wasn't. Figure in this cost, and where you will get it before you buy. The 6.5 Kohler engine fired right up after reading instructions, and filling with specified oil. It sounded kind of tinny at first, but has smoothed out and runs great after a bit of run time. After about 2 hours of splitting time, I noticed oil dripping from a fitting. Great. I tried to figure just how Amazon would actually deal with this if I turned it in and made it "their" problem. I decided that it would be an aggravating nightmare and prepared to fix it myself. The leak was at the threads where the fluid exits the control valve, and enters the front of the cylinder powering it into the retracted position. After removing the hoses and losing a bunch of fluid, you had to rotate the control valve and back the threads out of the cylinder flange. One of the other fittings clashed with the frame, and it also had to be rotated to remove the control valve. There was almost no thread sealant tape used on these threads, which caused the leak. Re-assembled all this after applying a proper amount of sealant tape on the threads that leaked. No more leak, and I'm back to splitting now. I have extensive experience with things of this nature, and adequate tools for the job. Many would not, and I can't imagine how they would have resolved this. Consider this before you buy. I bought it mainly for the wire shielded hoses and the heavy steel "work shelf" that is included with this machine. These are nice features not offered on many other Chinese made splitters. Aside from that, many of these splitters are very much alike. If the supplier would like to credit me for the work, aggravation, and lost Hydraulic fluid associated with the repair that I had to perform, I would feel better about the whole thing. To be clear. This leak was the fault of whoever pre-assembled the hydraulics, and not any faulty parts.

We really love this beast! Does a great job splitting wood with ease. A bit hard to put together with one person. But so worth the price and trouble. We will be having years with this machine!

Out of the crate you must assemble this wood splitter. It came complete with all the nuts, bolts and pins. Nothing missing. It will take 2 men (or one very strong young guy) to put the splitter main beam with the hydraulic cylinder on the chassis and pin it in or a come-a-long with a high point to lift it upright.Once I got it assembled and towed out to the splitting site, I began to use it and is noticeably faster than the 22 or 25 ton models I have used in the past. Busts through 24 to 28 inch rounds like no tomorrow. I was shocked that the Kolar 9.5 hp engine started on first pull.Good value for the money! Hands down.

The only challenge is the assembly. You need three strong men to just get it out the crate. I was scared ar first, never assemble such a beast , no talking about hydraulic oil stuff ( buy it by the bucket in an autozone or local car store. Took me (us) 4 to 5 hours to get it working. Great engine. Start on the first rope pull.

I'm dropping hickories- some very large (larger than recommended for this unit). It did load up a couple times on knotty sections- but still went through. For the money U can't beat this machine. That being said- this price point does miss out on features found on more expensive units. No load sensing, no hydraulic lift, no oil cooler, a very minor hydraulic oil filter. Unit gets pretty hot after an hour of continuous use. Has a Kohler engine (which is great), but it's their economy unit- splash oil lubrication, no filter (but it does have a cast iron lining, so that's good). Starts easy, runs pretty good- a little surging, and the gas tank is too small. Not much run time. Overall- very pleased.
