I was intending to make a set of machinist jacks for those rare times I do need them. I probably still will make smaller ones but there is no need to make this size as these will do the job quite well.I prefer the knurled knob over the tommy bar type, particularly when the tommy bar is mounted half way in the thread travel. Basically means you can only really use it when its extended past that point. I just don't like limiting a tool that is meant to be versatile. These can be adjusted at any point int the travel via the quite substantial knurled knob. If you really want the tommy bar, then drilling a hole through the knurled knob is the way to do it. If you have trouble drilling a hole, you don't really have a need for these jacks to begin with!I prefer a machined smooth base and these have little ridges instead. They will work for most things, but I'll probably stick them on the lathe and face the bottom of it instead. So basically, anyone can have the tool that they want with some light machining, or leave it as is and it will work just fine for most applications. Two of these shipped to your door for under $20, it's sometimes just not worth making unless you really want to.

Sturdy little jacks! I like 'em! I do wish they didn't slip so much on the milling table, but that's an easy problem to solve.
