I've wanted a manual yarn winder for a long time, mostly because the electric ones scare me. It was very easy to set up and required no assembly. I simply moved the guide into place and found a table to clamp it onto. The instructions were easy to follow and remember. Next thing I knew I was winding a yarn cake! My first one I just wound it, and encountered some problems, as it was very loose and tangled. But after I figured out that I had to hold the yarn with light tension before it went into the wire guide, and it provided enough tension to turn out perfect yarn cakes! So besides having to add some tension, and the clamp on the table getting loose every now and then while winding, it works great. It was so satisfying to see the strands stack up as it wound into a cake, and it is easy to remove, just firmly pick it up, and voila! I was in the market for a yarn winder, and I feel like this works well for the price ($14.99). I know I will be using this for years to come, as the cakes that it winds work perfectly in my yarn bowl, and my spindle yarn holder.
