if you use a hole saw to drill a 1.75 inch hole it will be a bit too bit for these to fit well.

cheap thin piece of crap. plug installs in floor but, if you step on it I'm sure it would fall out after you covered it with carpet

These fit a 1 3/4” hole perfect. I would say they would work in sheet metal that is 1/8” thick or less. They would work best in materials that are 1/16” thick or less. They are a semi-flexible plastic so I wouldn’t recommend using them in a area where a direct impact could push them in or out. But if you may need to remove the plug sometime it should work great.
