We have a very large great room with a high ceiling. We wanted to build a sound absorbing wall behind our tv to remove the echo in the room and that would look good. We used these panels as the first layer against the wall and then put wood slats over. These combo worked great to achieve our goal!! No echo and looks great!

The Sound-Reducing Tiles (White, 18 pack) work better than expected, are of much better quality than expected, and are easier to mount than expected! We have a 20 y/o autistic daughter who just moved to her own apt. With exceptional sound sensitivity, she was been getting headaches and anxiety due to a nearby laundry room that produces loud clanging from the dryer and churning from the washer. We purchased these tiles, hoping they'd dull the sounds enough to help her relax. The picture is mid-way in mounting the tiles down the door and along the adjoining wall. First of all, these are slightly smaller than an exact 12x12, which is standard even for boards. (No problem!) Secondly, they stick VERY well! The door was a thick glossy varnished wood and even Command Hooks would not remain on it, but the tiles adhered well! The adjoining wall is a kitchen wall with a medium orange-peel texture and the tiles adhered to that too! The tiles look quite sharp/modern and bright on the door and wall - a great improvement! Later that day, our daughter said she went out into the hallway to take out her trash and was surprised to discover the washer had been going! She hadn't heard the sounds from inside her apt as before. She waited for the dryer to start to determine if the tiles blocked the loud, high-pitched clanging of metal jean buttons banging over and over on the dryer drum. She had to walk into the kitchen and stand 3 feet from the door before she could make out the muffled sounds. She then opened the door and sure enough, the dryer was clanging LOUDLY! Our daughter went back inside her apt and texted that she is certain she can now relax inside her apt because"the tiles did the trick!" These tiles need an Exacto knife or a Box Cutter and ruler to be trimmed (As we did along the right edge of the door). The tiles are not flimsy or cheap; some quietening tiles are made of foam and soft, but these are firm and compressed. They take a bit of muscle to slice them, but the results are stellar. Easy to install, beautiful, and a solid 4 out of 5 for sound buffering.

Good size compared to the competition. But at the expense of a a self adhesive back. Now i got to go and buy tape? Not worth it

These are wild... put 9 of the 12 on a door and it was enough to freak me out.I am a professional voice artist. I have all the bells and whistles for home recording voice-overs. I've always been the type to work with my recording space because I've had to. Some sound engineers can do this and some can't because the results are rarely consistent enough for their finely tuned ears. That being said I've never bothered much with extensive or permanent room treatments.Interiors doors are essentially HUGE drum. They transmit sound because they're hollow and only loosely attached to the house so they're free to pick up and transmit all sorts of weird frequencies. Put your ear on one and then on the wall next to it in a closed room and you'll understand. I put 9 of these on the back side of the door as a test and WOW... these are freaky. They don't just absorb, they seem to actually deaden the door on BOTH sides somehow.I put them up "temporarily" by placing a square (6x6in ish) blue painters tape on both the back side of the panel and on the door itself and then using a 3/4in glob of hot glue. Place them a tad high and smear them down in place. They come right off. Use the good 3m blue tape on ANY surface you plan on keeping tape on for more than a few days. The $6-8 a roll stuff. The green frog tape is also excellent for long term use. It will not harm the surface underneath. I just removed some from a guitar that had been on there for 4 years! The cheaper tapes are fine for surfaces you don't care about but they'll leave a residue and or damage the surface if used more than 30 days or so.That's all I got for today... ordered another 24 to screw around with. These are somehow totally different than standard acoustic foam and I'm not sure how to explain it the effects other than once spread out they absorb a TON of the main frequencies out ears hear. I can no longer hear a standard 20in box fan on high we use to keep the dogs from barking through this treated door and I'm totally weirded out by it lol. They sound almost like a black hole.

Pros: decorative (makes my wall look interesting according to 6 or more people that saw them (330 panels) in my living room & dining room.Cons: provides very little sound dampening, even though I used approximately 330 panels to cover a wall that is 33 feet wide x 9 1/2 feet high. Double-sided tape doesn't stick well on these panels. After using lots of 2 inch wide sticky double-sided tape (from several different manufacturers), several panels fell down (after being stuck to the wall with tape) after 1 or 2 days. My solution was to place 1 or more nails into each tile to stick it to the wall.BTW - The reason I kept these panels on the wall instead of returning them to the seller is becauseseveral friends & relatives mentioned my wall looked interesting and decorative and was nicerto look at versus a blank white painted wall.

I guess you need to buy multiple packs of these to put on your walls in order to make any difference. I bought one pack and put them up and there really was no change in sound absorbency. I ended up buying a white noise machine and that works much better than these sound panels to drown out noise from the freeway I live next to. These were not great for what I needed them for but maybe if I had multiple packs they would work better. They did look nice though, I will give them that.
