They sounded great until one ball came apart at the seam within 2 hours of use.

Surprised by the top quality of these shaker/beat-balls. Arrived in a gift box with a velvet bag. Sounds terrific. Liked it so much as a gift, that I bought a pair for myself. Instructions on YouTube on how to play them. Very pleased.

I guess they work it wood would make a better sound and less likely to break

Precisely what you’re expecting. They’re holding up pretty well.

They're garbage. They have the tone of an ostridge getting railed... basically the sound is obnoxiously loud and unpleasant. The ropes are too long, rough, and therefore cause excess rubbing on the hands. The balls are too big, made of thick plastic and overly full of whatever is inside, probably more plastic, and therefor too heavy to really make quick work with. The real squash ones are expensive and don't last as long as garbage plastic but they are actually lovely to play with. And if you're gonna take the time to learn an instrument, you might as well do yourself the favor of getting something half decent to start with. This is not half decent.

I love that the string is adjustable and the shakers are large enough to hold comfortably. The shaking also sounds great, it’s quite loud and full. But the plastic material makes it so that the balls slide past each other too much. Which makes the banging sound non existent. Wooden ones are better for that reason. So, unfortunately, Not what I was hoping for.
