I used these screw inserts is an oak project to install casters and they worked great. Some important tips: a drill bit and hex key are not included. You will need a 7/16th drill bit for these inserts to fit them properly. 7/16th is not a standard size in most drill bit sets in the US, so you may need to buy one. You can find them on Amazon or your local hardware stores. The hex key size you will need is 8mm. Also, if you really want for these inserts to sit flush with a hard wood, I suggest drilling a very shallow hole to start using a 9/16th drill bit, before drilling the full depth hole with the 7/16th bit. Bits with a brad point will help you to keep the two holes perfectly aligned. If you try to tighten down on screw inserts like these so they are flush with a hardwood without a countersink of some sort, you risk damaging the top of the screw inserts. A simple extra step solves the problem.

I could not figure out what size of drill bit to use for the 8mm insert. 1in was too big and I couldn't get the insert screwed in with smaller bits as I worked my way up. Tried epoxying the insert into place and I'll see what happens when it dries. The instructions also state to "use our allen wrench" to screw in the insert, which I thought meant that it was uncluded. No allen wrench came with my inserts and I dont see one sold separately. I just used another 8mm nut and bolt to attempt to seat the insert.

Very soft material, even on softwood you got to be very careful driving that in. Have to make quite specious hole. Wouldn't recommend for serious projects

These are an exceptional quality for the price they are actual steel not casted so they have the strength needed for hardwoods and go in very smoothly. I used a little paste wax when inserting and they glide right in and are solid.
