First time using a plastic welder and have to say it was a fairly straight forward process. The metal staples don't get "red hot" like some videos show, rather just melt into the plastic.The staples aren't held in the welder at all, so you have to hold them in place until it's where you want to weld. A short 2-3 seconds of trigger hold and the staple starts to melt into the plastic. The only other challenge was holding the subject (a bumper in my case) together with one hand and welding with the other. After a few tries, I had my process down and it became easier to do.The soldering iron on the other hand seemed a bit anemic. With the triangular spade installed, it took several minutes (and a lot of smoking) to reach a temp able to melt the included plastic rods. Unfortunately it turned into a nasty mess, therefore I will stick with the staples and use body filler/epoxy to fill any gaps.Overall, the welder worked great and was easy to learn. Tons of staples included so losing a few in the learning process is not a big deal. Great kit for anyone needing such a tool.

the case this comes in is horrible....and i mean HORRIBLE!but the kit itself is nice...makes me think of my ex girlfriend though....wooopty dooooooptythe plastic gets welded and is usually stronger than the original

this is a nice big kit, its nice it came in a case, although it is not organized in anyway, just kind of everything thrown in a box. so far i have only used the soldering iron part so melt some plastic parts back together and it worked great, i dont know if it is the coating on the tips, or the temperature, but when i have tried doing this with normal soldering irons and they always burn the plastic and become a big mess, this iron did not do that. the only problem i have had with it is the first time i plugged it in it let out some pretty nasty smelling smoke for a while before whatever it was all burned off

Really comprehensive set. I like how this set comes packaged in an easy to store carrying case keeping all of the misc small parts together. I was surprised to find out that the set includes not just the plastic welding tool, but also a soldering iron.

This is an excellent kit for $30. It includes the hot stapler, soldering gun with 3 tips (2 for welding) aluminum mesh, diagonal cutters, steel brush, backing tape, plastic "rods" for filler, and plenty of staples. It claims 1200 staples but I wasn't going to count, it will last me a lifetime. I repaired a bug deflector on my hood that split that I have been using gorilla tape to keep together every couple of months. No more. I hot stapled the back side and it's been holding solid. I also repaired a Fluke 77 series meter that I dropped and the body cracked. Tried CA glue but it wouldn't hold. The hot staple repair has fared much better. Note that the cutters that come with this are not flush cut. It will leave sharp steel poking out. No fault of the product, that's just the way these work. 5 stars for value and effectiveness.

I ordered this for some car fender repair. I initially used the plastic pop rivets, but they didnt hold long. As I had never used this type of tool before, I was unsure what was needed. Fortunately, this kit contains all possible accessories needed for basic plastic to plastic repair. The two key welders (black gun shaped item and yellow handled item - see pics) are solidly built and have construction grade cords on them. I ended up using both tools on the car fender, and though it worked out fine, I should have practiced on something else first as there is a learning curve to plastic welding and there is only minimal "how-to" info provided in this kit.
