SUGGESTIONS TO INSTALL THE METAL STAIRS STRINGER.

riser for steps stringer

  1. Put gravel or bricks or cement blocks at the bottom to level the ground. Please kindly note, if you want that top step from stringer to deck surface to match the height of the stringer steps. Add gravel or dig to get that to match.
  2. Cut treads 10.1“ wide or a litter wider than 10.1", fasten them from treads top or screw from underneath. You may need professional tools to tighten screws underneath because of the holes location.
  3. Use a level on a tread to mark the exact desired height of holes in the side of the deck. Get the stairs level front to back and side to side.
  4. Use lag bolt for fixing the stringer to the side of the wooden deck. Or use expansion screws to fix the riser to the concrete deck.

I buried the bottom step because not needed. The provided bolts and bit were spot on. Using a 10X2 board and the above, makes it extremely sturdy. Would buy again!

Seller was prompt and the quality of these stairs didn't disappoint. However we didn't like the instructions and just drilled our screws from the top. So far all is well and these steps have been tested severely!

Overall a wonderful product. Had a bit of difficulty locating a more efficient wrench to get into tight places to screw the nuts onto the bolts to attach the wooden planks to the stringers, but we are happy with the finished product.

I used two kits (4 stringers) to open up my back porch. Hardest part was the concrete bolts. Make sure you take the sleeve off and test fit before to tap it in. Dust packs in the bottom of the holes and stops the bolt short. I found it easier to install stringer on pavers, then level and bolt to porch. I used 2”x12”x16’ and they fit great. The screws did work. I pre-drilled very small holes and hand started. I used and ratchet, 1/4 socket ,and Phillips head bit (tapped in) to tighten. Was an one day project and made a big impact.
