Works for what I needed. I was able to finish a covered area I was working on and it turned out well.

I had thought initially because there were bolts to tighten the shoe around the post that they would be a bit looser. However, unless you mangle them you won't be able to get a 4x4 post in them. I opted not to do that a hand planner would be your best option. I'd like to say that although the tight fit these are by far the most inexpensive post shoes on the internet. If you don't mind a little bit extra work in shaving off the millimeters of material from the bottom of the wood post these would absolutely work for your build. The build quality is fantastic too It looks like it's powder coated steel and it looks like it would hold up really well in the weather. The hardware comes with it and they are stainless steel. In conclusion if you don't mind a little bit of sanding or hand planing You can build a $3,000 pergola for a 10th of the cost. (Mine cost me $290 with 4 8' posts and 4 12' posts)
