I would have bought a new printer, but there were no good options for CD/DVD printing. So I brought this printer back from the graveyard. Pulled the side cover off my HP Photosmart D5160 printer. Under that panel was another panel in the way. Took a rotary tool and cut a hole in that to replace the gear. A lot of hours spent fiddling with it before it started working. Glad I can now print on CD/DVD's.

Once you carefully remove the side panel you will have access to the side. I have an HP J6480 and it started giving a constant carriage jam error and the flashing amber icon. so If this gear is broken the assembly will simply be loose and not attached to the printer. TAKE NOTE how you find this assembly on the printer. The assembly is attached to the printer by the gear you just bought. CAREFULLY first remove the metal clip and then CAREFULLY separate the the halves by CRAEFULLY moving the little tabs. Carefully rotate the white gear counter clockwise until it stops, Place the small half of the assembly in the printer on the metal shaft . Now notice the teeth on the metal shaft....your new gear you just bought will fit onto the shaft right on these teeth. Use your fingers to gently rock the gear on the shaft until it is in place. The larger half fits on the shaft and I suggest putting the top tab in first and the bottom tab for ease of access. click-click....you are done. hit OK and the printer goes through its thing!!! otherwise find the your tube video for changing this gear. DO NOT TRY to install this thing as a complete assembly b/c you will never be able to press the gear on the shaft. assemble on the printer.

My HP6500 printer stopped working. The displayed error indicated that there was a paper jam. I knew that this was not the case after thoroughly checking the inside of the printer and not finding any stuck paper. I figured out that the cartridge carrier was stuck and wouldn't move at all.A google search and YouTube video put me on to the issue of the cracked clutch gear that was slipping and wouldn't cause the cartridge carrier to move. The gear was easily accessible by removing a panel from the side of the printer.I ordered the gear from this USA supplier because I wanted the printer back in service fast. When the gear arrived, I changed out the old one in less than five minutes and my printer came back to life. It saved me the cost of getting a new printer. I now have four spare gears which I hope I never have to use.

These i purchased in a vain attempt to repair a HP Officejet, just the same as many have. In all fairness they do fit where they belong, are sufficently tight and will do the job just fine. What you have to be weary of is the fact that by the time that this gear has broken in your printer, there are guaranteed to be some other broken gears, missing springs, etc.. and so in theend at least in my experience, you end up throwing out the printer anyway, usually in a fit of rage. This after dicsovering that you must completely dissassemble the printer down to the componet level, and upon doing so discover the 5 other gears/springs etc that are busted also. For what they are and do they are a great buy. Just dont get your hopes up on getting that printer back functioning.
