I don’t know about these things, but my husband wanted it so I got this for him. I asked my husband and he said, that this head is sharp and works well with the Grizzly Jointer. He says that you should double check each blade for tightness before install and use, as there were a couple loose from factory. Other than that, he thinks this is a good value.

I purchased this for a G1182 6" jointer manufactured in 2003. That happens to be the year they switched from using a 16mm pulley shaft diameter to a 5/8", or .630" to .625" They also changed the overall width of the cutterhead from 8.8" to 9.4".The cutterhead I received had a 16mm pulley shaft and a 9.4" overall width. My understanding is that no Grizzly machines were manufactured with this combination of measurements. The 16mm pulley goes with older machines and a width of 8.8".My machine had a 5/8" pulley, so the shaft was oversized. I was able to turn this down to the correct dimensions, but this could obviously be an issue for many people. The overall width worked perfectly, and the full 9.4" was needed for proper belt alignment. The bearing spacing did seem a touch wider than the OEM part, but couple strokes with a round file got the pull-down bolts to fit into the machine casting.I would hesitate to recommend this part unless you can verify the dimensions you need and are perhaps capable of making small modifications. If you can, this saves about $100 from the Shelix part. The part seems quite well machined, with the pulley journal undersized a few tenths off nominal for a good slip fit, which was far superior to the OEM part which was oversize and slightly oval. Use caution removing the old pulley.Cut quality is excellent. The inserts are even with each other and leave no edges or 'scallops' that people seem to complain about. There is only light surface ripple that is eliminated with a slow feed rate. This is a true helical head, not a 'spiral'.Another review gave one star, which I find suspect. They complain about stripped threads *and* about it throwing inserts. But that doesn't make sense. How could you characterize the threads after such damage unless you were messing about with them before, in which case it would be ridiculous to operate it knowing the threads were damaged. All carbide insert tooling gives torque specs for the inserts because they are fussy. It is easy to under or over torque them, leading stripped threads or loose inserts. I suspect this is user error.

The Byrd is too pricy. I saw this and had hope. The knives came super dull. Screws stripped way too easily. No instructions. The cutterhead itself destroyed my jointer. Knives easily get loose and chop up the bed.I have a Grizzly G1182. This should have worked perfectly. This trash destroys machines. Stay away.
