It is a direct replacement.. BUT IT'S ALUMINUM And the head IS NOT A FRACTIONAL OR METRIC STANDARD SIZE..!! I've tried all wrenches and you'll round off the hex if not careful.If you use one of those adjustable wrenches that clamp on two opposing corners you'll save the original plug and NOT NEED THIS PLUG TO FIX IT to begin with.. Lol

It is an aluminum plug, and it has to be because the transfer case is magnesium. But that means the head is easy to round off. This plug fits both the fill and drain plug on my NP256C AutoTrac transfer case. The fit guide says it will not fit a '99 K2500 Suburban, but it is the correct one for my truck.

I needed this for my 09 Ram 1500 NVG246 Transfer case. I couldn’t even get it from Dodge! Go figure, I’m ordering Chevy parts for my Ram! It fit though......

Definitely grab one of these if your fill (or drain) bolt is getting rounded. ***This review, and listing, is for the fill bolt*** My fill bolt was getting a bit rounded and aluminum is known for that because of its softer physical properties. Now I can rest assured that my fill bolt will not have issues getting more round from fluid changes for my transfer case. Also, as a general tip, use the corresponding sided socket, especially for anything aluminum-bolt related. I.e. use a hex socket for a hex bolt, and so forth. Using the multi-toothed sockets that fit multiple bolt styles greatly increases the change of rounding and stripping. There's far less surface area to spread the force exerted through the socket with the multi-toothed sockets.

Nice to have replacement parts available. Fit the NP8 RPO code transfer case on our 2002 Suburban. I rounded off the original, so make sure you don't torque yours more than 20-ft-lbs. Not excited about spending $10 on a bolt, but it still beats a car payment.
