One of those purchases I made with lots of questions and dreaded calling Comcast as I heard I needed to do that to switch to my own 'router and modem' combo (ARRIS SURFboard SBG7580AC). This is a Comcast approved device and ARRIS have set up a simple web page for you to set this modem up. It was couple of simple clicks and I was done! The modem was online and working! There was no need to call Comcast to set this up. But I had to call Comcast stop the rental charges! Boy! Did I notice the difference?! This modem/router combo really sped things up! I am seeing 20MB of download speed difference with this unit. I wasted so much money renting Comcast modem. Great instruction manual come with the modem/router , it made all the difference! Love the product so far! P.S. I am newbie. I had no idea, in this day and age routers and modems are sold separately! Anyways this combo unit makes it easy.

The modem/router has worked very well for the past 2 wks. So far, so good. I only notice the wifi signal in the master bedroom has dropped off a bit from the previous modem. Not a show stopper but does make the 2.4 Ghz signal to an internet radio 'sketchy'. I fixed it with a NetGear 750 signal repeater/extender. Full strength now and a good value at $40. Modem was easy to install and works well with Comcast. Two other modems did NOT work with ComCast / xFinity (not this model) and had to be replaced. In fairness, this modem did NOT work either, right out of the box. But Comcast finally came out and found a bad cable connection at the street. Likely the other two 'defective' modems were not but too late to go back and check. This Arris (Motorola) unit has good customer support because when it did not work, I called. The Arris Cus Svc rep and I verified that the Modem was 'pinging' out and back to the 'net. Would definitely buy this one again.

I have been using this modem for a couple months now. It generally works OK but I have had problems with it periodically dropping wi-fi connections and some devices that had trouble connecting with the 5G signal. This could be due to the other devices, I don't have enough tech skills to diagnose it.But the reason I am giving them ONE STAR is that today I was redirected from a website I was navigating to to an Arris/McAfee sales pitch page for security software. It seemed to imply that the website was unsafe. The site I wanted was obscure but in no way dangerous. I spent about an hour trying to first get around the redirection, then researching it on Google. The solution might seem kind of obvious when I reveal it. may seem obvious, but the way the redirected page was laid out it was not at all clear, Solution is simple, just click the (low contrast, fine print) "do not agree" button. Then they make a big deal about a 120 second countdown until you are allowed to go to the web page you want. This took about an hour for me to figure out and I know it isn't just me based on all the comments I found trying to fix it. Totally unnecessary waste of a lot of people's time for this stupid marketing trick.

The surf board SBG7580AC is the most reliable and fast modem I've had the pleasure to operate. I replaced the SBG6900AC ( Junk ) with this fine modem and never looked back . I receive well over 375mb down and close to 45 up. Although its DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and i havent yet tryed the Next-Generation ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem yet , its by far the most superior modem at the time of my purchace back in January 2018. I will try the SB8200 as soon as i can and update. But with this 7580ac modem you can not go wrong.June 2019 . I just browsed to see what's available in the modem world and I noticed all these negitive reviews for this modem. My provider is Brighthouse/ Spectrum. I personally am very negitive about McAfee software science back in 2001 I had to search for a separate program just to remove it from my system. They are hacks.anyway when I purchased this modem it came with this McAfee crap software and from the start I turned it of before I connected the modem to my ISP. Here it June 2019 and I use the gigabit service and never seen this random page as described by some users. I live alone so these no way It was activated . I can't speak for other ISPs p but thru Spectrum I've had no issues with this McAfee software update that I haven't been able to block. Spectrum rarely even seems to notice my modem but I can't continually receive speeds of 800 to 950 mb down and 40 to 60 mb up. I have over 25 devices connected and use the Mac address security feature that lets me have what seems like an unlimited amount of devices to add both 2.4 and 5 GHz . I've been had this modem for over a year and a half now with absolutely no issues or McAfee software problems. I suppose it's an ISP issue but Spectrum doest seem to push these McAfee updates or science I removed it before I connected to my ISP maybe it's not added to my updates. My advice to those with update issues is to change ISPs I suppose. Although I will do my research when I next upgrade I have used Surfboard products science cable internet was conceaved and experimented with others but always came back to Surfboard. Motorola produced a fine product and although Arris is a second rate outfit the Surfboard is still a good choice provided you do your homework first.

This modem/router may be expensive but it does get the job done. The download and upload speeds are maxed out with the help of this modem/router. The wifi signal from this router reaches my basement and 2nd floor without any issues and has been a great asset in home automation because it plays nice with all of my devices. The only slight knock in stars is the McAfee software blocking some webpages that are safe causing me to wait around 2 minutes to get where I need to go but I I will just have to add those websites to the proper lists to avoid any further mishaps. The only other thing is the price. The modem/router is great but I feel like with all of the other AC and gigabit routers/modems, the price should be around $159.99 and not $199.99 Nevertheless, I am happy that I bought this modem/router and would gladly recommend it to a friend.
