I’ve been using the Autel Home Level 2 EV Charger for my Audi E-Tron Q8, and I absolutely love it. It’s a game-changer for Level 2 charging at home. The setup was straightforward, and the performance has been fantastic.Pros:Charges my Audi E-Tron Q8 quickly and efficiently—perfect for Level 2 charging. The 40Amp capacity is ideal for my needs, and it works great with my 240V setup.Sturdy and well-built for both indoor and outdoor use.The app is a great addition! It’s easy to use and lets me monitor charging progress, schedule charging times, and track energy usage. The design is sleek and modern, and the cable is long enough to reach my car easily.Cons:None so farOverall:This is an excellent EV charger for anyone looking to upgrade their home charging setup. I recently invested in the Autel Home Level 2 EV Charger after purchasing a new electric vehicle and learning about the tax incentives available in my state. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to get a home charging solution, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice!Installation was pretty easy. I decided to hire an electrician to set up a new NEMA 14-50 plug for the charger, and everything went off without a hitch. The professional installation gave me peace of mind about safety and reliability. When it comes to performance, this charger does an outstanding job. I usually charge my car overnight, and I consistently wake up to a full battery at 100%. It’s incredibly efficient, making my mornings much smoother! The 25-foot charging cable is another great feature. The extra length means I don’t have to park right next to the charger, which adds a lot of convenience to my setup.Regarding build quality, the charger feels solid, but I noticed that the rubber charging cable tends to scratch easily when placed on the ground. To mitigate this, I bought a plastic sleeve to protect it, and that’s worked out well. It would have been a nice bonus if a cable protector was included with the charger. One of my favorite features is the scheduling option that lets me set charging times during off-peak hours. This not only helps keep my electricity costs down but also supports energy efficiency.Although I had to invest in a sleeve for the cable, I wholeheartedly recommend this charger to fellow homeowners. It’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to improve their EV charging experience!

After many months/days/hours of researching options for a quality 32A EVSE with a NEMA 14-50 plug that also has a good app, it came down to the ChargePoint Home Flex or the Autel MaxiCharger. The Home Flex is well regarded as one of the best out there, and the ChargePoint app is clean and works well with public charging so I imagine it works just as well with home charging. The price seems a bit on the high side of reasonable at $550.The Autel MaxiCharger isn't as well known, and some reviews gave it very high praise, but there's hardly any mention of the app. The more recent release of the 40A NEMA 14-50 plug Lite version also came with a discount (as of 1/2024) that puts the price just under $400. This made it a no brainer to give it a try, and I'm happy to report that it's really great so far. It looks and feels high quality all around. The charge plug handle has a very nice rubbery texture (not just slippery plastic) and is solid. The cord is beefy but relatively flexible (moreso than previous version per some reviewers). The slightly longer NEMA 14-50 plug cable is great BUT note that the cable routes away from the NEMA 14-50 ground plug. Most people install the outlet with the ground plug facing up, and in this case the cable would also route upward (see photo). This could be an inconvenience if you can't easily rotate the outlet and need the cable to route downward (that's part of the reason it hasn't been wall mounted yet).Wall mounting looks very straightforward using the solid metal bracket and screws that are provided. Setting it up was relatively smooth and painless using the QR codes on the unit and the paperwork. It paired immediately with an Android phone via bluetooth, then connected immediately to the WiFi network, and I was able to register everything through the app and get an additional 3 months warranty by entering some extra information. It started charging the vehicle immediately and maintained 7.7kW (31.5A at 244V) while fully charging a Chevy Bolt, which is the max for this model year. The Autel Charge app is clean, intuitive, and even slightly better than ChargePoint's in terms of displaying charging information: energy in kWh, charge duration in HH:MM:SS, cost in USD (or whatever currency you select), power in kW, and a nice charging curve that can display power/current/voltage over the duration of the charge. It has equivalent features for setting the max current limit, autostart (begin charging after plug in to a vehicle unless schedule is enabled), charge scheduling, start/stop charge, and more advanced features for charger sharing (haven't used), family sharing (haven't used), link to alexa (haven't used), firmware updates, RCD test (safety feature), and you can even reboot or factory reset it from the app. Another nice feature is that you can view and export your charge history.Overall this is a great EVSE with one of the better apps out there. Snagging this while discounted is just icing on the cake.
