Yeah, for some reason having a baseball doing the pounding on the glove pocket just feels right. This mallet is not fitted with a leather-covered baseball, but the vinyl-covered ball used gives the look and feel needed to get the job done.I ordered the red laced version and received a great feeling mallet with the knob on the end opposite the baseball. I like having the knob to reduce the risk of letting the mallet fly. A further improvement might include a hole drilled near the knob for a rawhide wrist lace. But, this would be easy to do myself.The baseball seems very secure and has stayed in place, so far. The right tool for the job!

This ball mallet will be great for breaking in any mitt. Along with tying a ball in the mitt while waiting to be used, this mallet can only accelerate the bre break in period for a newer mitt. You simply hammer the attached ball into the mitt over and over and again. This is easily accomplished while leisurely watching TV or whatnot, as long as the noise doesn't bother your siblings/parents trying to sneak in a power nap.All kidding aside, it's an excellent took to help you break in your new glove. The photo shows a youth size baseball mitt, if that matters. Note: This mallet will not make you magically catch the ball like a major leaguer.

My son just started baseball for the first time and got a new glove. This glove mallet is great for breaking in and helping shape gloves. It helps wear down thick spots, soften the leather, and shape it just like you need it.

yeah, I saw things and simply wanted it. can't really say why... its one of those things where 'just because I can'. kind of items. it makes perfect sense as to its official use and I can see this being really good for its intent. its solid, lightweight, but not cheap feeling. small enough to be comfortable using between hands. is weighty enough without being too much in the hands.

I don't play baseball. I don't own a baseball glove, and haven't since I was a fourth grade kid in little league.But I have a fabulous Korean gong, and the mallet for it got destroyed in a show.When I saw this, I knew it would be just the right size and weight. All I needed to do was make a cover for it to soften the tone just a tad.Sure enough--perfect.Now, if you have a baseball glove to break in, I can't see how this wouldn't be perfect for its intended use as well. But now I have a gong mallet, and it made me happy without ever once breaking in a glove.Five stars.

I purchased this to help break in my glove as well as my son's glove. It works very well, the baseball is the size of a real ball as seen in the photo. It made breaking my glove in much easier and I would recommend this to anyone who needs to break in glove or reshape a glove. Build quailty is very sturdy, it should last me for a while as my son gets a new glove often as he keeps growing.

This review is for Baseball Glove Mallet, Glove Break-in and Shaping Tool from Archetytype brands, $20 on Amazon.I have an old college friend who is now retired but restores old baseball gloves part time. He removes the old laces then re-stitches them then restores the leather. As soon as I saw this Archetype Glove Mallet I knew I needed to get it for him. Amazon offers similar glove mallets; some are solid wood on the ball end instead of an actual mounted baseball. Not being someone who restores gloves I can’t say which design is better. But it makes sense to use an actual baseball at the end of the mallet so it will conform to the right ball shape.I gave the mallet to him last week and expect he will, at some point, give me feedback which I will then include in an updated review.
