Product Description

Black Out Pond Dye

Black Out uses our proprietary formula to give your pond or lake a beautiful mirrored effect all year long. Black dye for ponds gained popularity on golf course ponds. Golf superintendents wanted to highlight the maticuloulsly manicured greens surrounding the necessary waterways. Black pond dye was the perfect solution. However, black pond dye is becoming more popular among privately owned ponds.

We encourage pond owners trying a pond dye to take a picture before you apply the dye and then another picture the same time of the day 24-48 hours after applying the dye. It is amazing how subtly a dye can transform your body of water.

Important Tip: All ponds will take a dye differently and the same dye can appear slightly different in the same pond from one application to the next. Preexisting conditions in a pond can also alter the way a dye appears. If you apply a pond dye and the tint is drastically different than what is discussed above, there is a preexisting condition that is altering the color of the dye. For example, customers will add our pond dye to a rather green pond and the pond turns a vibrant green color. The preexisting condition in this pond is a planktonic algae growth. When the blue pond dye was added, it intensified the color of the green planktonic algae. Once the algae is controlled or dies off on its own the beautiful turquoise color will magically appear.

  • This product is safe for livestock, recreation, potable water and not harmful to fish when used according to label directions.

  • Pond dye is applied approximately every 30 days or when you notice color fading. Sometimes significant rainfall or extreme temperatures will require you to add more dye sooner than 30 days.

  • Simply pour the dye into pond along the shore or from slow moving a boat. Dye is concentrated and can stain rocks and dock, so be sure to apply away from these areas. Dye will mix throughout pond in 24 hours.

  • 1 gallon of pond dye will treat 1 acre with an average depth of 4-6 feet.

  • Do not ad water to the spill. Soak up product with oil absorbent. Place the soiled absorbent in trash bag to prevent spread. Use a 50/50 bleach/water mixture to clean up rest. To clean of hands use bleach water, but be sure to keep out of eyes.

Terrible job of packaging. Box had no padding, several orders just thrown in together. Box was torn open from mishandling. Not sure I got everything. I think the final parcel was put together by fulfillment center not vendor. Product is an excellent product, good coverage.

First bottle wasn’t dark enough so they sent me a replacement. They understand my feelings.

I put water in my 100 Qt. Sprayer added the product at that time the wind started, so decided to do the spraying the next day. Went to garage next day, all leaked out on floor.

Our pond is a New pond, I bought 1 pack of a different brand of blue dye from Tractor supply for my 1/4-1/3 Acre as a cheap "what the heck". My intentions have been to use the Blackout liquid dye by this company. After seeing how well the other brand did with only adding one dry pack, I purchased 3 packs of the black out in the dry pack form thinking I surely would get from light blue to assumedly dark blue or almost black. NOT EVEN CLOSE. These packs fizzed out in 10 Minutes, Maybe DUDS, I'm not sure. All I know is the other brand, fizzed in the pond for almost 40 minutes. I hope this company is willing to offer some form of reimbursement. The reviews on the black out liquid form seem pretty good. So if you guys are willing to prove it works. Send me a JUG. Otherwise I will not buy from this company again.

If you like the green or blue pond dye don’t buy this product. This dye gives your pond a more realistic color and we really like that!

This is my first time using a black dye. So far, I like it. I've mostly used blues dyes, but the end result is usually an emerald green water color with those. It was still beautiful, but not natural looking. The black dye darkens the water to give it a more natural, reflective look (see pic). I used one gallon for approximately a 1-acre pond about 4-5' deep.I can't comment on its longevity yet, but keep in mind that there are many variables that play into that: how much rain you receive, how much water is moving through a spring-fed pond, its size/depth, how much product you use, etc.

After having used the predominant "blue" coloring for my pond, decided to try this Black out product, and I think it works MUCH better! My pond weeds are much more slow growing after having switched to this product, and I like the mirror effect it provides.
